The Cold Atom Laboratory on the International Space Station has achieved temperatures of minus 459.6 degrees Fahrenheit — 100 million times colder than deep space. And on Earth, the FermiLab's Cold Box reached minus 460 degrees, just 1/500,000th of a degree above absolute zero. At these temperatures, matter stops behaving like matter. Atoms merge into a single quantum state called a Bose-Einstein Condensate.
