He argues that Ankara "is not Abu Dhabi, but not Tehran either", a pragmatic actor Washington and Jerusalem still have real leverage over, from NATO corridors to the quiet air-force deconfliction seen over Syria. On the F-35 fight, he notes that Israeli officials themselves frame the sale as "very bad, but not a disaster," and warns against turning a manageable disagreement into a public rupture with Israel's indispensable ally. On Gaza, he's blunt: Hamas's move to disband its emergency committee is "only a charade," and the group will never surrender its weapons without military force.</itunes:summary><itunes:duration>1909</itunes:duration><itunes:explicit>false</itunes:explicit><itunes:image href="https://d3wo5wojvuv7l.cloudfront.net/t_rss_itunes_square_1400/images.spreaker.com/original/610da3b65da09f3ac3a3105d7578974b.jpg"/><itunes:season>1</itunes:season><itunes:episode>34</itunes:episode><itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType>

Trump’s Iran gamble: Victory, stalemate or a dangerous mistake?

Presidential historian Gil Troy returns to examine the aftermath of the Israel-Iran conflict, Donald Trump’s decision to end the fighting, Iran’s leverage over the Strait of Hormuz and the uncertain future of the US-Israel relationship. Jerusalem Report editor-in-chief Ruth Marks Eglash breaks down what happened, and what it reveals about modern journalism. The Civil Commission's report on October 7 crimes documented not only sexual violence as a deliberate tool of war, but the torture of family members as a mechanism of psychological terror. Yet within hours, the discourse had shifted, deflected by a competing narrative and the media's reflexive return to Israel-Palestine "both sides" framing. As Marks Eglash argues, this isn't accidental: it's a structural failure of how journalism handles asymmetric atrocity. The question she puts on the table: "Is journalism dead?" — is less provocative than it sounds. As editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Report, Marks Eglash brings decades of experience navigating how Israeli and Middle Eastern stories are framed, distorted, and consumed by international audiences. The episode opens with Michael Starr, diaspora and antisemitism correspondent at The Jerusalem Post, who joins Laznik to discuss the return of Dror Or, a hostage previously held in Gaza.

With only two slain hostages still unaccounted for, the discussion focuses on the emotional and political significance of Or’s release. Starr also addresses the backlash against Peter Beinart following his appearance at Tel Aviv University, and analyzes the fallout from American commentator Candace Owens’s accusation that Israel and France were plotting to assassinate her. In the second segment, Laznik speaks with Dalia Ziada, coordinator at the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy, about Donald Trump’s renewed call to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.

Ziada offers insight into the history and political context of the Brotherhood, and what such a move could mean for U.S. relations across the Middle East. The episode closes with political analyst Sasha Machta, who examines growing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah on the northern border.
