Waking up to the gentle sound of waves beneath the villa and looking out across endless turquoise water was incredibly relaxing. There were no busy roads, no traffic and very few distractions. It felt like escaping to a private paradise.Another thing nobody tells you is how much time you'll spend simply enjoying your surroundings.

During my stay in an overwater villa in the Maldives, I found myself spending hours on the private deck, whether enjoying a morning coffee, reading a book or watching the sunset. The colours of the lagoon changed throughout the day, creating a different view every time I looked outside.One of the highlights was the marine life. 

Looking down into the water, I often spotted colourful fish swimming below the villa. It felt like having a natural aquarium on my doorstep. Some mornings even began with a refreshing swim directly from the villa's private steps into the warm lagoon.
