From the time we’re old enough to pick up a book about dinosaurs we learn about the chics-sue-lub asteroid that struck the earth about 66 million years ago, putting an abrupt end to the dinosaurs.      But dinosaurs certainly aren’t the only animal to die off, in fact before the extinction of the dinosaurs, 65 million years ago, there were 4 other mass extinction events and the latest one, the extinction of the megafauna occurred around 50k years ago.     Now where this discussion get real interesting is when we hear stories of people coming across animals that were suppose to be extinct or when we hear stories of cryptids that sound very similar to animals that once existed.      Personally I believe a good chunk of the cryptids out there today are exaggerations of animals that we thought died out long ago but are actually still alive and well, hidden away in areas if their habitat that are rarely visited.      An example of this would be the orang pendek, a small, Sasquatch-like being said to roam the forested island of Indonesia, exactly where homo floresiensis once walked, a small human-like being nicknamed ‘the hobbit’.       So tonight we’re gunna talk about some of these supposedly extinct animals that could be behind cryptid creatures.
