Before moving into biomedical engineering, Zaib developed an extensive academic and healthcare background spanning more than five years, earning a BSc in Applied Medical Sciences and developing an understanding of the human body, disease, clinical reasoning and healthcare. Personal circumstances led him to transition away from that pathway, relocate to Liverpool and begin building a different future.

That transition became the beginning of a new chapter.

Over the following year at the University of Liverpool, biomedical engineering provided a different way of looking at problems that had once been approached primarily through applied medical sciences and healthcare. Engineering introduced another perspective: understanding complex systems, analysing data, designing solutions, experimenting with technology and examining how biological and technical systems interact. The experience became about considerably more than completing a Master’s degree. It represented rebuilding direction after years invested in another path and learning how knowledge from one chapter can be carried forward into something entirely different.

The Scrolls of Reflection is built around what those six years taught him.

Each episode unfolds as a new “Scroll”: a focused reflection examining an idea, experience, system or lesson through the combined lenses of applied medical sciences, biomedical engineering, systems thinking and lived experience.

Some Scrolls explore the architecture of human performance: stress, resilience, adaptation, recovery and the limits of treating ourselves like machines. Others examine ambition, identity, failure, uncertainty, discipline, relationships, technology, engineering, personal infrastructure and the difficult process of rebuilding when the original plan disappears.

The podcast does not present life as a straightforward progression from failure to success. Instead, it explores the complicated territory between them: the periods where progress is difficult to recognise, where previous identities have to be reconsidered, where circumstances force adaptation and where apparent setbacks eventually become sources of knowledge.

Zaib draws upon more than half a decade of experience across applied medical sciences, healthcare and biomedical engineering to examine those questions from an unusual position: someone who has experienced healthcare through years of intensive study and practical exposure before subsequently approaching biological problems through engineering, experiments and analysis.

Alongside personal reflection, episodes explore the broader systems operating underneath everyday life. How does prolonged pressure affect human performance? What happens when ambition exceeds sustainable capacity? How can engineering principles change the way we understand biological problems? What does it mean to rebuild after investing years in one trajectory? How can failure become information rather than simply an endpoint? And how do we construct lives capable of adapting when circumstances change?

These are not stories about having everything figured out.

They are reflections produced by going through the process.

From more than five years immersed in applied medical sciences and healthcare, through a major personal and academic transition, to moving to Liverpool and completing an MSc in Biomedical Engineering (Healthcare) at the University of Liverpool, The Scrolls of Reflection documents the ideas, mistakes, discoveries and lessons accumulated across six transformative years.

Whether you are a student, engineer, healthcare professional, researcher, entrepreneur, high achiever or simply someone whose life has taken an unexpected direction, the Scrolls explore a central idea:

Your previous chapter does not become meaningless simply because you chose — or were forced — to write a different one.

Sometimes the knowledge acquired along the wrong path becomes part of the architecture required to build the right one.

The Scrolls Of Reflection

<itunes:author>Zaib Shamsi</itunes:author><itunes:owner><itunes:name>Zaib Shamsi</itunes:name><itunes:email>10medicteam@gmail.com</itunes:email></itunes:owner><itunes:image href="https://d3wo5wojvuv7l.cloudfront.net/t_rss_itunes_square_1400/images.spreaker.com/original/92baf3128bd831629fa2f6775b69637d.jpg"/><itunes:subtitle>Welcome to The Scrolls of Reflection, a weekly exploration of engineering, human systems, resilience, ambition, failure, reinvention and the lessons that emerge when life refuses to follow the path you originally designed.
