As Honorius's reliance on the general Stilicho crumbles, the Visigoths under Alaric seize Rome, ushering in an era often referred to as the Dark Ages. The emergence of the Franks and the reign of Charlemagne signal a complex interplay of power, learning, and the looming threat of Viking invasions that reshaped Europe.
