From Grave Clothes to Glory: A Testimony of God’s Delivering Power | Samia Young

In this powerful episode of The Word of Their Testimony Podcast, Samia shares a deeply moving journey. Growing up amid violence, abandonment, and instability on the south side of Chicago, her early years were marked by trauma that left deep emotional scars. Yet even in the darkest moments, God was quietly preparing the path that would one day lead her from brokenness to redemption.

At just 14 years old, after years of feeling unwanted and unseen, Samia encountered the gospel for the first time while living in an abusive home. That moment changed everything. Though her circumstances didn’t immediately improve, her newfound relationship with Jesus gave her the strength to endure, forgive, and hope. As she grew older, life brought new struggles—legal trouble, unhealthy relationships, and seasons of wandering far from the faith. But at 24, shattered and desperate on a jail cell floor, she cried out to God once more—and He began rebuilding her life from the inside out.

Today, Samia is an attorney, minister, author, and mentor whose story is captured in her book Samia Come Forth: Trading Grave Clothes for Purpose. In this episode, she vulnerably shares how God not only delivered her from trauma, poverty, and shame, but also led her through a deeper process of surrender—removing the “grave clothes” that once kept her bound. Her testimony is a powerful reminder that no life is too broken for God to redeem, and that true freedom comes when we fully yield our hearts to Him.

You can learn more about Samia and follow her journey at https://www.samiayoung.com

<itunes:author>Corinne Stevens</itunes:author><itunes:subtitle>In this powerful episode of The Word of Their Testimony Podcast, Samia shares a deeply moving journey. For the Lord Your God is With You Wherever You Go | Katy Palmer

Katy Palmer was born and raised in a Christian home. She spent a good amount of time with her grandparents when she was little, and they became the foundation for how to live like Jesus. But when Katy was 8 years old, everything changed after her dad got into a head-on collision. The enemy used this tragedy to begin to drive a wedge between her and God. Katy slowly began to drift away from Him. In her early 20s, she married a man who didn't love the Lord. Later on in life, Katy got into yoga, which she now realizes was a “false light” community.

It wasn’t until Covid happened in 2020, when all her plans fell apart, that Katy started coming back to Jesus. She had been in a few circles that talked about Him, but it was a fake, new-age version of Jesus. Even so, the Holy Spirit was still directing Katy and working to bring her back to God. She started praying, and told God – “put me where you want me to be”. Despite having been so far away from Him for so long, God welcomed Katy back with open arms. He led her to move across the country to Austin, Texas and has protected and provided for her in miraculous ways.

Looking back on her life, Katy realizes that the Holy Spirit has always been there with her every step of the way. She’s learned the power of constant prayer, and the peace that comes from complete surrender and obedience to the Lord. From Porn Addict to Unchained Leader | Lori Lohrmann

A homeschooling mom and lifelong believer, Lori Lohrmann says there’s a very real Satan that is gunning for our kingdom calling, but she didn’t see it until age 35. What started off as an innocent hobby of reading books, quickly turned into an addiction Lori couldn’t escape. The content got darker and spicier and eventually led her to watch pornography. She was instantly hooked. Lori explains this happened because there were emotional wounds and scars from the past that she hadn’t ever seen. She didn’t know the root issue and started self-medicating with venturing into this new realm. The worst part was that Lori couldn’t stop. She was in full-blown addiction. Lori tried to resist temptation, but she continued to fail over and over again. The shame took such a mental toll on her that it was hard to be present around her family. Lori was dying inside trying to break free.

One day while scrolling on Instagram, she found Unchained Leader and joined the next day as the first woman to enroll. She describes it as 10 years of therapy in 90 days and the 10% that works, all through a biblical lens. As a result of this process, Lori was able to break free from the bondage of sexual addiction and find healing, restoration and freedom. Afterwards, she felt called to share her story and help as many women as she could. Lori began working as a coach with Unchained Leader and started their women’s program.

I’m incredibly thankful for Lori’s courageous vulnerability throughout her story. If you or anyone you know is in the depths of addiction, this episode will give you the hope that you’re desperately seeking. A Mafia Hitman, A Prison Sentence, and the Miracle That Changed Everything | Philip Hicks

Join us for a truly remarkable story of redemption with guest Phillip "Wildman" Hicks. Once a man living life in the fast lane, Phillip's world was one of reporting sports, eating fire, and partying with the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Hunter S. Thompson, and Robin Williams. But this high-octane lifestyle came to a screeching halt after a botched burglary and a violent confrontation with a mafia hitman left him on the wrong side of a .357 Magnum. This episode dives into the incredible series of events that could only have been orchestrated by God.

In his powerful testimony, Phillip recounts the shocking details of the shootout that nearly cost him his life, leaving him with a shattered femur and facing a bleak future. While lying in a hospital bed, sentenced to life plus 15 years in prison and overcome with despair, a divine appointment changed everything. A young Christian man shared the simple truth of the gospel, leading Phillip to a profound encounter with Jesus Christ. What follows is a miraculous journey through the legal system, where his life sentence was ultimately vacated in a stunning display of God's sovereignty and grace.

Today, Phillip and his wife have embarked on a new mission. Having sold their house, they now travel the country in an RV, ministering to those in the prison system through their organization, "Jesus Behind Bars." This episode is a testament to the fact that no one is beyond God's reach. Phillip's journey from a "rebel without a cause" to a man filled with purpose and faith demonstrates how God can take the most broken stories and use them for His glory, bringing hope and new life to countless others.

You can learn more about Philip and his mission at JesusBehindBars.com

<itunes:author>Corinne Stevens</itunes:author><itunes:subtitle>Join us for a truly remarkable story of redemption with guest Phillip "Wildman" Hicks. Her community couldn't see past the illusion, leaving her to navigate the confusion alone.

The story takes a devastating turn after her husband’s death, when a bombshell revelation from her children shatters her world and unlocks Amy's own dissociated memories of horrific childhood trauma. From Self-Reliance to Following God's Lead | Paul Graham

This episode features Paul Graham, who shares his inspiring testimony of finding faith and surrendering his life to God. Paul grew up in a church but didn't have a deep personal connection with his faith. As he got older, he focused more on himself and his career, neglecting his spiritual life. Even after college, when he found a church community in Denver, he still felt hesitant to fully embrace his faith publicly. A turning point came for Paul after the passing of his brother. He began to seek a deeper connection with God and embarked on a challenging self-improvement program called 75 Hard. This experience helped him break down his ego and refocus on God's will for his life. Through further programs and challenges, Paul continued to grow in his faith. He learned to rely less on his analytical mind and more on the Holy Spirit's guidance. He also developed a more grateful heart posture, focusing on God's promises rather than his own circumstances. Paul's faith journey has led him to a place of complete surrender to God. He is passionate about using his skills and knowledge to help others build wealth for kingdom purposes and live a life of joy. He is now focused on helping others grow their faith, finances, and mindset. She turned to promiscuity and unhealthy marriages in a desperate attempt to fill the void. Her acceptance of Jesus at 25 marked a turning point, leading to a path of healing and spiritual growth. Gerrianne’s ability to forgive herself and others was instrumental in her transformation. When faced with an unplanned pregnancy, she made the difficult decision to give her child up for adoption. She earned her degree in social work and used her experiences to help others in the field of adoption and foster care. Today, Gerrianne continues to serve as a board member with Texas Alliance for Life. Her story teaches us that we can find wholeness in Jesus and purpose in our struggles. She knew about God, but didn’t know she could know Him personally. At a young age, she went through trauma and abuse, which led to depression, self-esteem issues, and thoughts of wanting to die. When Dani was 17, Dani had a radical encounter with God’s love in the middle of trying to end her life, and things started to change for the better. She discovered she didn’t have to earn His love, that it is freely given. We engaged in a fun discussion about how God has moved in her life ever since. He called Dani to take a leap of faith and move across the country with her son three years ago. We also talked about how she’s worked through unhealthy eating habits, overcome cycles of abuse, and walked in trust through her season of singleness. Dani shared she discovered true love and intimacy with Jesus, and she stresses the importance of resting the identity that He has for us. I am so thankful for her experience and wisdom. Things started to fall apart when her dad cheated on her mom and her parents split up. She started hanging out with the wrong crowd, got into drugs, and things quickly spiraled downward after that leading to partying, abusive relationships, and single motherhood. It was then that Neesha endured the most horrific nightmare, and became a helpless victim to unspeakable torture and abuse. But even in her darkest hour, God was with her through it all. After escaping the deeply traumatic situation, Neesha struggled to process what she experienced and tried to commit suicide nine times. BUT GOD had other plans, and He wasn’t done with her yet. The road to recovery wasn’t easy, but God has brought MIRACULOUS healing to her mind! Neesha was one of those addicts that everyone had lost hope for, but now she is completely sober and has more than she ever prayed for! Her life is living proof of the miraculous, healing power of God. In Neesha’s story, we find complete hope that NO MATTER WHAT we have been through, no matter how low we have been, no matter how much trauma we have suffered… we can recover, we can heal, and we can be made NEW through Jesus!! Jennifer’s life tells a story of loving people no matter what. Throughout all of her hardships, she learned to take ownership over her relationship with the Lord and never stopped praying. God ended up using her to help change the fate of her family. I was so moved by her faith, love and joy despite everything she has endured. I pray this blesses you as well!

<itunes:author>Corinne Stevens</itunes:author><itunes:subtitle>Jennifer Jensen had a traumatic childhood growing up in a broken home with alcoholic, drug-abusing parents.
