Tonight on Dreamgaze Overtone, we’re vibrating on a higher frequency as we dive into the shimmering, velvet draped world of Magic Wands. Fresh off the release of their brand NEW Wishing Well EP, this LA duo; Dexy and Chris Valentine, continue to flawlessly master the alchemy of their sound. We’re spinning a few standout tracks from the new record, including the celestial "Starline".

The trip continues as we drift into the sun drenched, kaleidoscopic psych-pop of Sugar Candy Mountain. Long before the world caught up, the Hackney brothers were fusing precision musicianship with an aggressive, spiritual energy that redefined sound. It is a personal favorite of mine, & for good reason; it's pure, unfiltered sonic lightning.The show features a full album play of the record, moving from the blistering speed of "Politicians in My Eyes" to the grooving defiance of "Keep on Knocking," honoring a collection of songs that sat in an attic for decades before finally receiving the recognition they deserved.

Dexy & Chris Valentine have returned to enchant listeners with their latest, deeply atmospheric album, "Cascades" & you can hear us chat all about it on this episode of Dreamgaze Overtone. We talked about the origin stories of the band, the new album & what went into it creatively, our mutual love for The Doors & the wide open spaces of the desert, the romantic serendipity that defines their artistic journey & even the time they were featured on Coast to Coast AM with George Nory (big fan over here y'all)!

Far from a mere collection of songs, "Cascades" is like a cohesive sonic portal, pulling you into a world shaped by gothic romance, ancient myth, metaphysical & supernatural moods capturing the aural element of water, along with the lingering echoes of the past. Layered guitars, droning synths & heavy reverb collectively create a dense, hazy texture & that density of "Cascades" evokes the feeling of being underwater; where the sounds seems to move around you rather than directly at you.

Both lyrically & musically Dexy & Chris were inspired by water on this album & listening to it from start to finish will leave you feeling utterly submerged. The vocals & instrumentation on this album literally seem to float over one another rather than sit squarely in the mix, giving the impression of voices coming from a far off place; like you're listening to it deep within a lake or beneath a moonlit river. They build, swell, & recede like tides, making the listener adrift in the midst of the current of the song.

You're in for a real treat folks, as was I. So grateful to chat with these guys. We dove into some really fabulous conversation about some unexpected & fun topics. Like I said I'm a huge fan of The Dandys so this was an absolute dream come true & getting acquainted with Kula Shakers' fantastic music has been legit mind blowing. So dang good.

We’ll be grooving to sounds from both bands at our Pearl Street Studios in Laguna Beach in between interviews & I'm also gonna be playing the radio debut of super cool Imaginary Persons’ radical brand new single "Lush" as well!
