https://www.spreaker.com/show/brazilian-tales-by-variousBrazilian Tales is a collection of six short stories that introduces English-language readers to important voices in Brazilian literature from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The anthology was translated from Portuguese and introduced by Isaac Goldberg, and includes works by Machado de Assis, José Medeiros e Albuquerque, Coelho Netto, and Carmen Dolores.
The collection includes stories such as *The Attendant’s Confession*, *The Fortune-Teller*, and *Life* by Machado de Assis, alongside *The Vengeance of Felix*, *The Pigeons*, and *Aunt Zeze’s Tears*. Together, these tales explore love, jealousy, fate, deception, social expectations, moral conflict, and the complexities of human behavior.
Rather than presenting Brazil through a single perspective, the anthology brings together different literary voices and styles. Psychological realism, irony, tragedy, romance, and social observation combine to create a varied portrait of Brazilian society and its people.
Originally published in English in 1921, *Brazilian Tales* also offers a valuable introduction to a literary tradition that was still relatively unfamiliar to many English-speaking readers at the time.
This audiobook is an excellent choice for listeners interested in **Brazilian literature, classic short stories, Machado de Assis, Latin American fiction, psychological storytelling, and international literary classics**.]]>enArtsCopyright Mentor New Yorkhttps://d3wo5wojvuv7l.cloudfront.net/t_rss_itunes_square_1400/images.spreaker.com/original/a6e740cb6bcaf753ef805535670df159.jpghttps://www.spreaker.com/show/brazilian-tales-by-variousSat, 15 Aug 2026 23:01:27 +0000Mentor New YorkMentor New Yorkfeeds@spreaker.com"Brazilian Tales" is a collection of six short stories selected by Isaac Goldberg as best representative of the Brazilian Literature of his period - the end of the 19th century.
