"Son of a Preacher Man" is a song recorded by British singer Dusty Springfield in September 1968 for the album Dusty in Memphis. It became an international hit, reaching no. 9 in the UK singles chart and no. 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 in January 1969. The album Dusty in Memphis was released in stereo, though its singles were remixed and released in mono.

"Son of a Preacher Man" was Springfield's last Top 30 hit until 1987, when her collaboration with UK synthpop duo the Pet Shop Boys yielded the huge hit "What Have I Done to Deserve This?". "Son of a Preacher Man" found a new audience when it was included on the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's 1994 film Pulp Fiction; a re-release of the single reached number one in Iceland in 1995.

But they're most successful was 1968’s "I Know I've Got a Sure Thing", a William Bell/Booker T. Jones composition which peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Black Singles chart.

In 1969, In 1969, the group released a long-playing album, Ollie & the Nightingales; "I Got a Sure Thing" was not included because Atlantic Records retained ownership of that single and all other pre-1968 Stax material after Stax severed its distribution deal with Atlantic.

Ali in the Nightingale were singing the song I've Got A Sure Thing with a lot of faith and confidence. The lead singer believe with happiness that he had a good woman. He said: I know I've got a sure thing.

When I was a child, I thought country music was made by white people. But I began to notice that black people around me loved some of the country hits in the 70s. I grew up in a world where nobody called music black or white. As I got older, I learned that black people made country music too like Charley Pride and Ray Charles.


Growing up, I remember hearing a country song by Glen Campbell titled Rhinestone Cowboy. As a child, I wasn't really into country music in the 70s that much. But I loved the country song Rhinestone Cowboy. Whenever they would advertise songs on television, I would always listen for Rhinestone Cowboy. They of course wouldn't play the song entirely, but when they played the country song on the radio, I knew it was Rhinestone Cowboy thanks to the advertising commercial. They played commercials for songs it seemed a million times a day. There was no way you could forget a song. Back then that was my MTV. Laugh if you want to. Things were different then.

Consisting of primary vocalist Neil Tennant and keyboardist Chris Lowe, they have sold more than 50 million records worldwide, and were listed as the most successful duo in UK music history in the 1999 edition of The Guinness Book of Records.

Three-time Brit Award winners and six-time Grammy nominees, since 1984 they have achieved 42 top 30 singles, 22 of these being top 10 hits on the UK Singles Chart, including four UK number ones: "West End Girls" (also number one on the US Billboard Hot 100), "It's a Sin", a synth-pop version of "Always on My Mind", and "Heart". They had other hit songs too.

My favorite is West End Girls. The song was released twice as a single. The song's lyrics are concerned with class and the pressures of inner-city life which were inspired partly by T. S. Eliot's poem The Waste Land. It was generally well received by contemporary music critics and has been frequently cited as a highlight in the duo's career.

Let’s think back on the days of R&B when we had singers like The Dells & Pattie LaBelle singing “I LOVE YOU”. Those are the days we need to get back to. We need to talk and sing to the tunes that lead us to love.

Some say R&B is gone. Well, not many singers are singing “I Love You” anymore. Love is very important. It’s the thing that God made, and he put it into the world. Some have it in the heart and some don’t. But love is what helps make this world go round. Love, affection, and kindness is what makes life worth living. It puts meaning into a song. Without it, music and life is so dead. It brings people together. It helps to bring marriage.

When love is brought into music, it helps people to fall in love. What are we doing without it? Are we not living the life of love anymore? Love is the key. Without it being the true message in our songs and in our hearts, it seems we don’t know what true love is for. It seems we don’t know how to stay together. Love is a good thing. It can be a good thing in our songs. It can be a good thing to say more often.

Hi! I’m Gail Nobles. “The To Be Continued” album was the third and final album to feature Ali-Ollie Woodson during his first stint with the group. Woodson was best known as the lead singer of Motown act the Temptations from 1984 to 1986, and from 1988 to 1996.

I loved his singing. I loved his singing on the song “A Fine Mess”. Woodson was a good actor with the Temptations in the Fine Mess Video.

A Fine mess is a comedy film written and directed by Blake Edwards and Starring Ted Danson and Howie Mandel. The song, “A Fine Mess”, by the Temptations was on the film’s soundtrack.

After Paul Williams, Dennis Edwards, David Ruffin, & Eddie Kendricks, Ali-Ollie Woodson was a great lead singer in my opinion. He died in Los Angeles, California on May 30, 2010. It’s a hurtful thing to see our favorite stars die so young. He died at age 58. What A Fine Mess. I miss him.

Doo-Wop is a genre of rhythm and blues music that originated in African-American communities during the 1940s, mainly in the large cities of the United States, including New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Baltimore, Newark, Detroit, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles. It features vocal group harmony that carries an engaging melodic line to a simple beat with little or no instrumentation.

When I think of Doo-Wop, I think of Frankie Lyman and the Teenagers, “ Why Do Fools Fall In Love”, The Flamingos - “ I Only Have Eyes For You”, and “Earth Angel” by the Penguins.

It was in the 70s when I learned about Doo-Wop because of the American rock and roll Doo-Wop cover group Sha Na Na. But when I was a little girl watching their variety series that ran from 1977 to 1981, I called them Sha Na Na Na. The group’s name was taken from a series of nonesense syllables (Sha Na Na Na Sha Na Na Na Na) in the song “Get a Job” originally recorded by the Silhouettes.

The song that I remember Sha Na Na singing most is “Goodnight Sweetheart”. That’s the song they would sing when they ended their show. That was my day of Doo-Wop in the 70s.
Doo-Wop is fun. I love the harmonic singing and nonsense syllables. Gaining popularity in the 1950s, Doo-Wop was “artistically and commercially viable" until the early 1960s, but continued to influence performers in other genres.

The Sylvers made plenty of Love Songs.

It peaked at number one on the Billboard R&B chart, and Marie's only number-one single on that chart. It peaked at number 85 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The words Ooh La La La sounds like a woman singing in love. Teena Marie had a great voice singing those words. Her nickname was Lady T given to her by her collaborator and friend, Rick James.

She was known for her distinctive soprano vocals, which caused many listeners to believe she was black. Her success in R&B and soul music, and loyalty to these genres would earn her the title Ivory Queen of Soul. She played rhythm guitar, keyboards, and congas. Teena Marie was a three-time Grammy Award nominee. She left this world at age 54. Teena and her music will always be remembered.

I remember when I was little & some of the songs were advertised on television. It was hard to get the tunes out of your head once you heard them. The music of the 60s is music that is unforgettable.
