Today our Limit Breaker is Sinem Yazici. We met at a fashion event recently where I came in as a backup videographer last minute to help tell stories about fashion and change. Born in 1976 in Antalya, Sinem Yazici is a graduate of Marmara University, School of Public Relations and Advertising. Starting from 1996, her advertising career reached up to 14 years, working in several international agency networks and also as the advertising manager of locally and globally renowned brands. Her ever growing interest in being behind the camera was catapulted after a photography class in Istanbul, which started a whole new chapter that took her to New York City to complete her photography training in New York Film Academy. Sinem’s photography is the exploration of the human soul through stories of body and fabric harmonizing.

She won the silver "Kristal Elma" award in 2017 with her Wepublic campaign photo which is the most prestigious advertising award in Turkey.

She’s also the founder of “Model Taste” where she interviews models about their New York stories and experience.

He’s been able to grow his career and live happily married while traveling the world despite living with Cystic Fibrosis. If you’re not familiar, it’s a chronic genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system, causing persistent lung infections and reduced ability to digest food, resulting in a daily struggle for those living with it to maintain their health and manage symptoms.

Today our Limit Breaker is Junior Nyemb. He is the founder and Chief Empathy Officer at the grio agency: empaths, storytellers and creative problem solvers. Grio is short for griot-- an African Storyteller, the guardian of traditions, the bridge between generations. Like Griots in Africa and Bards in Europe, they are a team of storytellers who understand the power of this oral tradition to harness and pass on the collective consciousness of an entire era, culture, or civilization.

Today our Limit Breaker is Everette Hamlette. Everette’s work focuses on the beauty and resilience of people living in the Bronx. In 2016, after graduating with a journalism degree from the State University of New York at Albany, Everette returned home to work as a documentary journalist at BronxNet TV. There, he produced short form content about the daily lives of people in his neighborhood. In 2017, Everette founded his own production company, Stylish Ev Productions, and began work on his first feature documentary, “75 Park: e pluribus unum” about his changing neighborhood park. An early trailer of the film was screened at City Hall to raise awareness about the racial inequities in the NYC parks system. It was a revelation and Everette is now a speaker throughout the city on the topic. Everette is also a member of the national film collective the Filmshop and recently 75 Park was honored to be chosen for the intensive Filmshop Studio program.

Johanna’s parents are Colombian immigrants who with the help of our incredible community, raised two daughters who are first-generation Americans. At an early age, Johanna’s mother suffered a serious stroke that left her permanently disabled, and her family's lives were forever changed. Johanna’s mother was in the hospital for three years. As her father worked two jobs to make sure his wife had the care she needed, he leaned on this community to ensure his daughters were cared for. Their community supported her family through volunteer babysitters, food pantries, and after school programs.

She has a proven track record of getting results for people who need help - first as Assemblywoman Nolan’s intern and then as her Hispanic community liaison where she helped connect people to the community programs that helped her family when they needed it most.

Next in law school where Johanna continued to help individuals in the human rights and immigration clinic filing visas for victims of human trafficking, raising money for local community programs, and working in the tax clinic filing taxes for people with low incomes. After graduation, Johanna worked to get justice for victims of sexual assault and child abuse at the King's County DA's SVU, and helped 9/11 first responders get the medical care they're owed. Deanna is currently a doctoral candidate in Applied Psychology. In partnership with community-based arts organizations, she conducts research aimed to promote youth development and social justice through the arts. Outside of her doctoral studies, she’s an actor, dancer, singer-songwriter, and dance educator.

We talk about psychology and storytelling and it's role in social change.

Deanna is currently a doctoral candidate in Applied Psychology. In partnership with community-based arts organizations, she conducts research aimed to promote youth development and social justice through the arts. Outside of her doctoral studies, she’s an actor, dancer, singer-songwriter, and dance educator.

Her first empirical study examining how arts participation leads to growth in youth's awareness of inequity and engagement in social change has been published in the Journal of Youth and Adolescence. You can find the article here:

Growing up across the United States, Fritz found a deep love and passion for cinema at a young age, as it helped him escape from loneliness. He moved back to New York in 2017 to study his passions at the New York Film Academy, where he earned his Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Film over a period of three years. He is now based in Los Angeles where he operates as an independent screenwriter and film director. Today our Limit Breaker is Ashok Rajamani, an award-winning author, artist, poet, radio host, and speaker from NYC.

He is the survivor of a catastrophic, near-fatal brain hemorrhage at the age of 25. Though surviving, he was left with permanent bisected blindness, epilepsy, distorted hearing, erratic transient amnesia, metal staples in his brain, and ultimately, a carved skull courtesy of open brain surgery. The final consequence of his body's very own 9-11: his first book -- an irreverent and decidedly unconventional memoir about a day that exploded not only his brain, but the world around him, entitled THE DAY MY BRAIN EXPLODED: A TRUE STORY.

The memoir received worldwide acclaim, including raves from Pulitzer Prize Luminary Jane Smiley, Publisher's Weekly, Harper's Magazine, Booklist, The Times of India, Washington Post, The Atlantic Monthly, BBC, and more. He also performed the unabridged audio production of the book, which was called by Dr. Gregory O’Shanick, Medical Director Emeritus of the Brain Injury Association of America, a “groundbreaking masterpiece.”

After the hemorrhage, he emerged as a proud brain injury rights advocate, becoming a board member of the International Brain Injury Survivors Network, Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Brain Injury Association of America, and guest host on Brain Injury Radio.

Ashok is also an accomplished artist, having studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and School of Visual Arts. His artwork has been submitted and exhibited in galleries and shows such as Greenpoint Gallery, Exit Art New York, and Pancakes & Booze, the nationwide pop-up art tour.

He has been a keynote speaker for the International Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy in the United Nations, as well as headliner for events like “Masala in Words: A Night of South Asian American Writers," "Brain Injury as Confession," and "Brain Injury Warriors New York City." He is the winner of the Peoples’ Choice Telly Award for the TV special “Interview with Ashok Rajamani”.

Ashok's other works include Imagine Carnivalesque, his vivid essay collection of literary criticism, and If These Saris Could Talk: a monologue of gossip, an audio production starring voice actress Zehra Naqvi. Dee’s career goal is to always be a guiding "voice"​ and storyteller for TV programs, radio shows, documentaries or infomercials that teach empathy, compassion, respect, hope, faith, encouragement & inspiration for all viewers, young, old and in between, utilizing her voice-over, singing, world language and storytelling skills. Dee believes that educational television that raises awareness about important psychological and sociological topics that need to be addressed in society, as well as television that "teaches" (PBS, NJTV, CNBC, Sesame Street, Electric Company, Nickelodeon, Disney, The Discovery Channel, The History Channel), is where she wants to be.

A long-time advocate for the deaf community, Dee is currently working on a "first-of-its-kind" television show about deaf community issues. It will be entertaining as well as educational. Dee’s intention is to bridge the communication gap between deaf people and hearing people. She wants to set a new standard for educational television. It is her hope that Marlee Matlin would co-host the show with her. The show will also have a "sign of the day" segment, to help people improve their current signing skills, or teach those who want to learn some sign language, to communicate better with family members, friends and colleagues.

Christopher Leoni is a Latin American writer/director/actor whose focus is on diversifying the depiction of Hispanic culture. After serving in the Marines, Christopher laid down his rifle and picked up a pen to continue serving others by telling their stories.

He wrote and directed INK (6 mins) which went on to be a finalist for the New York Cinematography Awards in 2020, Pitch Boys (17 mins) in 2020, Intern on Parade (festival rounds) and A Moment for Glory (Post-production). He successfully organized and ran a film festival titled ‘Cinema Collective’ in 2019 at the SVA theatre with more than 500 guests. His genre preferences are comedy, action, and thriller.

Norma has struggled with finally telling the truth about how betrayal almost caused her to give up on sisterhood and brotherhood all together when a female soldier helped a male soldier to rape her. Norma came forward and decided that young adults, veterans, males and females that are heading into the world need to always be aware of the evil that lurks around them. Davis wants all of them to have been traumatized to know that they are not alone nor to be afraid about speaking out anymore.

Norma D. Davis is an independent filmmaker of shorts, public service announcements, and commercials. Norma has won two Honolulu film awards for writing, producing, and directing: Handle Your Business [starring Kene Holliday & Jack Knight], After I Did Sex (A.I.D.S), and Norma D. Davis: The Ultimate Love Child.

Norma is a proud US Army Veteran and Capital Community College graduate with a major in communication media. Norma returned to higher education after both her children were both in colleges away from home. She is also the founder of the Swilley Foundation, a sports league for young girls and boys of all shapes, sizes, and ethnicities from all over the world that want to play basketball.
