Brazil, 2022. In a remote area in São Paulo's countryside, a rural family who lives beside a charcoal factory accepts a proposal to host a mysterious foreigner. The home soon becomes a hideout as the so-called guest happens to be a highly wanted drug lord. The mother, her husband and child will have to learn how to share the same roof with this stranger, while keeping up appearances of an unchanged peasant routine. 
Carolina Markowicz is a screenwriter and director based in São Paulo, Brazil. Her short films have won many international awards and have played in more than 200 festivals worldwide including TIFF, SXSW and Cannes' Directors’ Fortnight (Queer Palm winner with The Orphan).

For example, The Sunday Times (South Africa) wrote that “through the “Afrikaaps” phrases, nuances and Humour, Barker has beautifully captured a marginalised and often misrepresented culture.” The film is being sold in Toronto by Known Associates Entertainment.
When musician Jerome Adams flies into Cape Town for his estranged father’s funeral, he finds his dad has bequeathed him his beloved Goema Club as well as the care of The Umbrella Men minstrel troupe. Unfortunately, the Club comes with a huge overdraft, due in two weeks for repayment to the bank on penalty of repossession, in a shady deal engineered by Tariq Cupido, a long-time family rival. Jerome decides to rob the bank itself under cover of the annual carnival parade when thousands of troupes will invade the streets, Tariq’s troupe, The Maulers, competing against Jerome’s Umbrella Men. And as Jerome reconnects with friends, and community, he learns about himself and why he must stay in this special place.

“Five Summer Stories” first premiered in 1972 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium and was quickly deemed “the greatest surf film ever made.”  The film’s unusual format—a montage of five-plus stories or vignettes—perfectly captured a fractured era in which an explosion of creativity and revolutionary change was shaking down the old order, taking the sport of surfing off into new and unknown territory.  Although the film went through several (and increasingly popular) incarnations as it played in theaters over a seven-year span from 1972 to 1979, its fundamental story remained the same—that the pure, innocent joy of surfing was symbolic of humankind’s best possibilities on Earth without war or politics or environmental destruction.  The film features music by the Beach Boys and Honk.
“Five Summer Stories” is directed and produced by Greg MacGillivray and Jim Freeman, and photographed by MacGillivray, Freeman, Bud Browne (“Going Surfin’”) and George Greenough, with narration written by Drew Kampion and music composed by the 1970s rock/surf band Honk and featuring songs by the Beach Boys.

“Five Summer Stories” first premiered in 1972 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium and was quickly deemed “the greatest surf film ever made.”  The film’s unusual format—a montage of five-plus stories or vignettes—perfectly captured a fractured era in which an explosion of creativity and revolutionary change was shaking down the old order, taking the sport of surfing off into new and unknown territory.  Although the film went through several (and increasingly popular) incarnations as it played in theaters over a seven-year span from 1972 to 1979, its fundamental story remained the same—that the pure, innocent joy of surfing was symbolic of humankind’s best possibilities on Earth without war or politics or environmental destruction.  The film features music by the Beach Boys and Honk.
“Five Summer Stories” is directed and produced by Greg MacGillivray and Jim Freeman, and photographed by MacGillivray, Freeman, Bud Browne (“Going Surfin’”) and George Greenough, with narration written by Drew Kampion and music composed by the 1970s rock/surf band Honk and featuring songs by the Beach Boys.

Adapted from an award-winning short that won the presidents’ award at Ringling College of Art & Design, “Icon” was filmed in Ahedo’s hometown of Saint Petersburg, Florida, just prior to the pandemic. The story pulls elements from his childhood growing up in the mid 90’s through the early 2000s in Florida.

In response to a global rise in demonic possessions, the Catholic Church reopens exorcism schools to train priests in the Rite of Exorcism. On this spiritual battlefield, an unlikely warrior rises: a young nun, Sister Ann (Jacqueline Byers). Although nuns are forbidden to perform exorcisms, a professor (Colin Salmon) recognizes Sister Ann’s gifts and agrees to train her. Thrust onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante (Christian Navarro), Sister Ann finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl (who Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years ago), and soon realizes the Devil has her right where he wants her….and it wants in.

Cebe runs away to Vancouver’s punk scene and ends up on probation under the care of psychiatrist Raymond Burr. After Don’s release, the family struggles to re-connect before the revelation of dark secrets leads to a harrowing conclusion.
FILM PRESERVATION  Discovery Productions, Inc. (John Alan Simon and Elizabeth Karr) finished the digital restoration of OUT OF THE BLUE to premiere at the Venice Film Festival. They undertook the project to preserve Dennis Hopper’s landmark film from only two 35mm prints of the movie in existence and to make it available to new audiences. The New 4K restoration is being shown for the first time on the big screen theatrically at Metrograph in November, 2021 in New York.

From its origins to its recent resurgence, it’s the story of a sound that redefined a generation and was too funky to keep down. WE LIKE IT LIKE THAT explores this fascinating, though often overlooked, bridge in Latin music history, showcasing the musical style that was born in the barrios of NYC and would eventually spawn a generation of chart-topping music artists and a global music movement that is once again alive and well today.   
In the 1960s, a generation of musicians from East Harlem, the South Bronx and parts of Brooklyn fused Afro-Cuban music with R&B, jazz, funk and rock to create Latin boogaloo. It was a period of revolution and social awakening and young Latinos in search of their identity adopted Latin boogaloo as their soundtrack.   
Much of this music was released by Alegre, Cotique and Fania Records during the 1960s and 70s. But as salsa, a more traditional style of Latin music, grew in popularity by the 1970s, some say the Latin boogaloo was killed off, not by the fans, but by cultural and industry politics.   
By the 2000s, after decades of obscurity, the artists who made Latin boogaloo popular finally began to get the recognition they deserved, with the help of DJs and new bands such as DJ Turmix, The Boogaloo Assassins and Ray Lugo & the Boogaloo Destroyers, that pay tribute to the genre.  
Additionally on March 11, “We Like It Like That: The Story of Latin Boogaloo Volume One” original motion picture soundtrack will be released digitally on Fania Records, featuring 14 classic latin boogaloo tracks from legendary music icons featured in the film such as Pete Rodriguez (“I Like It Like That”), Joe Bataan (“Ordinary Guy,” “Subway Joe”), Richie Ray (“Lookie Lookie”), Ray Barretto (“New York Soul”), Ray Barretto(“Azucar”), LeBron Brothers (“Summertime Blues”) and more.

From its origins to its recent resurgence, it’s the story of a sound that redefined a generation and was too funky to keep down. WE LIKE IT LIKE THAT explores this fascinating, though often overlooked, bridge in Latin music history, showcasing the musical style that was born in the barrios of NYC and would eventually spawn a generation of chart-topping music artists and a global music movement that is once again alive and well today.   
In the 1960s, a generation of musicians from East Harlem, the South Bronx and parts of Brooklyn fused Afro-Cuban music with R&B, jazz, funk and rock to create Latin boogaloo. It was a period of revolution and social awakening and young Latinos in search of their identity adopted Latin boogaloo as their soundtrack.   
Much of this music was released by Alegre, Cotique and Fania Records during the 1960s and 70s. But as salsa, a more traditional style of Latin music, grew in popularity by the 1970s, some say the Latin boogaloo was killed off, not by the fans, but by cultural and industry politics.   
By the 2000s, after decades of obscurity, the artists who made Latin boogaloo popular finally began to get the recognition they deserved, with the help of DJs and new bands such as DJ Turmix, The Boogaloo Assassins and Ray Lugo & the Boogaloo Destroyers, that pay tribute to the genre.  
Additionally on March 11, “We Like It Like That: The Story of Latin Boogaloo Volume One” original motion picture soundtrack will be released digitally on Fania Records, featuring 14 classic latin boogaloo tracks from legendary music icons featured in the film such as Pete Rodriguez (“I Like It Like That”), Joe Bataan (“Ordinary Guy,” “Subway Joe”), Richie Ray (“Lookie Lookie”), Ray Barretto (“New York Soul”), Ray Barretto(“Azucar”), LeBron Brothers (“Summertime Blues”) and more.

To date, Saillant remains an ardent fan of Kotcheff's works.
Newly restored Wake in Fright is an outrageous Australian film classic that was screened at Film Forum some time ago.   Saillant worked diligently on the restored version of Wake in Fright and played a key role in publicizing the film which was believed to be lost for many years.The film’s editor, Anthony Buckley, was able to locate the last remaining print of Wake in Fright in a storage depot, scheduled for destruction in just weeks. It took considerable work to salvage the print and restore the film so that it would run smooth and clean. The materials were then restored frame-by-frame at Sydney’s AtLabDeluxe with the aid of the National Film and Sound Archives of Australia.
It all began with Saillant's idea to present Kotcheff with a perfect gift for his 80th birthday celebration.  Saillant approached Kotcheff's wife, Laifun, about doing a screening of Wake in Fright.  Together, they located a decent film print with the aid of the National Film and Sound Archives and obtained permission to screen it. Saillant and Laifun secured The Museum of Modern Art in New York City for the screening of Wake in Fright. Wake in Fright was not an immediate hit. It languished.
Enter Tony Timpone, editor emeritus of Fangoria and co-director of international programming of Fantasia Film Festival.  As per Saillant's invitation, Timpone had attended the screening of Wake in Fright in New York City at the MOMA and took a liking to the film.  Timpone then met with Saillant to discuss the possibility of screening Wake in Fright in Fantasia Film Festival. Thereafter, Saillant and Kotcheff met in Kotcheff's office where Saillant pitched the idea of bringing Wake In Fright to Fantasia Film Festival. At first, Kotcheff seemed hesitant but Saillant insisted it would create a buzz with a new audience of film makers around the world. Kotcheff agreed.
Timpone screened Wake in Fright at his Fantasia Film Festival, and an audience immediately began to build.  In Germany, Wake in Fright was screened at the Oldenburg Film Festival, along with other Kotcheff films like Who is Killing the Great Chefs of Europe? His later films included The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (1973), Fun with Dick and Jane (1977), First Blood (1982) and Weekend at Bernie’s (1988).
Saillant's persistence of Wake in Fright paid off big and created a domino effect. Australians were attracted to the amazing qualities of the film made in their own Outback. An explosion of interest has now established and the film played in New York, LA, and Texas. 

Kotcheff’s continued success landed this past weekend at the Fantasia Film Festival where he reunited with Timpone to receive the inaugural Canadian Trailblazer Award as well as present screenings of THE APPRENTICESHIP OF DUDDY KRAVITZ and FIRST BLOOD.
