Yup, we’re addressing those pesky, draining feelings that sometimes overtake our weekend as we think, with impending dread, about the week that’s coming. Together, Kelsey and I talk about what triggers the Sunday Scaries, what they mean, and how we can take small actions that make a huge impact in managing the anxiety, overwhelm, and dread that some educators experience on Sunday afternoons. In our conversation, Kelsey doesn’t propose solutions to get rid of the feelings, rather, she reframes Sunday Scaries as an opportunity to listen, learn, and act based on your mental, emotional, and physical reactions.

Resources Mentioned in this Episode

Click here to register for the Educate and Rejuvenate conference

For more information about this episode and the resources mentioned check out my website

Go to www.theafroeducator.com/podcast

Find out your teacher type!

Go to www.theafroeducator.com to take my Teacher Types Quiz

Connect with Kelsey

Website: www.wifeteachermommy.com

Instagram: @wifeteachermommy

Twitter: @wifeteachermommy

Facebook: https://facebook.com/wifeteachermommybykelsey

Kelsey’s Bio
Kelsey Sorenson is a former third-grade teacher and substitute teacher. She's a teacher who has left the teaching profession twice, only to return to it with a newfound appreciation for the process. Through the course of the interview, we will hear her story of how she navigated burnout, learned to trust herself and the chaos that comes with the process, and how she found her way back to teaching. Along the way, we will also gain insights into how we can better manage our own lives, both inside and outside of the classroom. This episode will be inspiring, educational, and a great reminder of the importance of trusting the process on your journey out of burnout.

For more information about this episode and the resources mentioned check out my website

Go to www.theafroeducator.com/podcast

Find out your teacher type!

Go to www.theafroeducator.com to take my Teacher Types Quiz

Connect with Amber:

Twitter: @burnedinteacher

Instagram: @burnedinteacher

Facebook: Burned-In Teacher

Website: www.burnedinteacher.com

Amber’s Bio:
Amber Harper is a long-time educator, author, speaker, and podcaster. The number is astounding! Teacher decision fatigue is real and is caused by the exhausting number of minute-to-minute decisions that have to be made. In this episode, I’m going to share some strategies for how to not only reduce but also avoid decision fatigue that I used when I was a classroom teacher. It was around this time last December that I turned off the lights in my 6th-grade classroom for the very last time. As a former teacher with a new career, I know there are a lot of mixed emotions when a teacher leaves the classroom, even when it’s something that is in alignment with what you want. Upon thinking about this moment, I thought that this would be the perfect time to reflect and share what I’ve learned as a former teacher as well as what I’m looking forward to as I think ahead to the coming new year and its fresh possibilities. I hope that the lessons I share with you from my time as a classroom teacher inspire you to reflect on your own journey with gratitude for how far you’ve come and all the becoming that is still yet to be.

Resources Mentioned in this Episode

Instagram Post: To All the Kids I've Taught Before

For more information about this episode and the resources mentioned check out my website

Go to www.theafroeducator.com/blog

Find out your teacher type!

Go to www.theafroeducator.com to take my Teacher Types Quiz

Connect with me!

Website: www.theafroeducator.com

Instagram: @theafroeducator

Twitter: @theafroeducator

Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss a thing!

<itunes:author>Alexis Shepard</itunes:author><itunes:subtitle>This episode is a special one! Intentionally creating time to practice wellness routines and strategies alongside your students is not only beneficial for your own well-being, but this practice is a great opportunity to lead by example by showing your students how you create your own space to slow down, reflect, and nourish yourself from the inside out. Now more than ever, teachers are wondering how they can thrive and create sustainability in a profession that demands more in the midst of shortages, unprecedented events, and toxic work cultures. Caitlin has some incredible insights into self-care for teachers and why it is critical for educators to prioritize themselves - whether that means setting boundaries, developing new systems, or evaluating if their current role is still the best fit. During our conversation, Caitlin and I discuss burnout, how teachers can become complicit in their own overwhelm, and the action you start taking today to “Get away with teaching”…and come out whole on the other side.

Resources Mention in This Episode
- Waiting for Superman - A documentary film about the public school system
- How to Get Away with Teaching Subscription Box - go to www.howtogetawaywithteaching.com to get your box

Connect with Caitlin!
- Website: www.howtogetawaywithteaching.com
- Instagram: @howtogetawaywithteaching
- Facebook: @howtogetawaywithteaching

About Caitlin:
Caitlin is an educator and entrepreneur with over a decade of teaching experience in public schools.
