Because of on top of barbed wire, machine guns, trenches, artillery and massed attacks that were the norm for WW1, Passchendaele also had rain and mud. It's a fun-ish one this week as we move away from the terrible cannibalism we've been talking about for about a month and cover a story that doesn't have a single murder in it. But what it does have is a guy deciding he's had enough, stealing a cold war era tank, and going for a joyride through suburban San Diego with it. This is the story of Shawn Nelson and the 1995 San Diego Tank Rampage, and we're specifically making a point that this is not comparable to the Killdozer story. Because Nelson wasn't an asshole.

This is the story of Sawney Bean and his cannibal clan, and they terrorized a region of southwestern Scotland in the medieval era. By the time the family was brought to justice, it's said they had killed in the neighborhood of 1000 people. And eaten them. Or that's the story at least, but Gina and I have questions, horrible, awful questions.

Joseph Daniel Miller was a gross little man who murdered five women and attempted a further two murders in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania between 1985 to 1992. Miller also had an armed police standoff before he became a teenager, so there's that, and everything got worse from there.

You see, she stood out as the worst slave owner in a society that saw the institution as norma. And when Delphine left a number of her slaves to die in a house fire in 1834, the people of New Orleans decided that was enough of the LaLaurie's. The family was run out of town, and had to live the rest of their lives in exile, but unfortunately, there is not a satisfying end to this one.

After missing our first week, we're back, and we've brought a really fun episode (for a change). McArthur Wheeler was an American bank robber, and he found a new and unique way to gain infamy. You see, McArthur is infamous for dousing his face in lemon juice before robbing two Pittsburgh area banks with the belief it would obscure his face from the security cameras.

Wheeler was very wrong about this, and when he was arrested, he was astounded the police had found him. In his own words, 'but I wore the juice, I wore the juice.' And the press this story received spurred one psychologist to look into how this had happened. His research would lead to the formation of the Dunning-Kruger effect, which describes that low performer's rarely know how badly they perform, and the problems that arise from this.
