If your goal is to become financially free, and all you do is prioritise new clothes and shoes, hanging out in bars, not investing, and burning cash. Becoming financially independent under such circumstances will be farfetched.
Your priorities can be broken down into daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and whatever way you see fit.
Having a clear list of what you would like to prioritise can make life much easier and guarantee a fruitful use of your time.
Firstly, start with a deep moment of reflection. And then be honest with yourself about the things that you want out of life. Furthermore, you should determine how you are spending your time and resources. And lastly, acknowledging the work you are willing and able to lodge, in order to make the necessary changes.
It is absolutely crucial to pen down all your goals on a list in order to ensure that nothing is left out. For instance, list your goals and work out a way to prioritise those goals. After that, it would be good to determine what comes first and what can wait for later.
Establish your list of priorities on a daily basis. Daily priorities could be prayer, drinking enough water, exercise eating healthy meals. Your weekly priorities could be reading a book, or weekend family time. On a monthly basis, priorities can be savings, paying for water, electricity, phone, internet, cable, rent, and mortgage. Your yearly priorities can be medical checks, fees for kids, holidays basis.
Make a conscious effort to eliminate distractions by focusing on becoming what you think about!. Moreover, distractions can be a big set back to meeting your goals. 2. Always seeking approval from other people.
I have been a victim of relying on external validation and seeking other people's approval for everything and anything I did. When one is not confident enough that the decision they've taken or are about to take is the right one, there's an issue of self confidence. Perhaps you feel depressed about fewer men being attracted to you, or that you aren't getting enough likes and heart emojis on social media as expected. When you simply need your friends to validate or approve of your feelings, your outfit choices, the men you date, the jobs you pickup etc. There's a self esteem issue going on!
3. Shy and Withdrawn
Often times, people who prefer to maintain shadow appearance are dealing with self esteem issues. I bet you know at least one student from your school or class who never wanted to raise their hand to answer questions. They probably were terrified of saying the wrong thing and being laughed at. Some people are purely anti-social and would rather stay on their own for fear of not fitting in, not being cool enough or just not being worthy to be counted amongst. These are all signs of low self worth
4. Avoiding eye contact.
Ever heard of the handshake that establishes a connection? this is when you shake a person's hand and look them straight in the eye. This communication style sends signals to the other person, that you are tough, you are strong, you are polite, you are respectful and above all confident. Avoiding eye contact during communication are tell-tale signs of weakness, nervousness, fear and low self esteem.
5. Hesitant in Words or Action
People who struggle to articulate their thoughts often have a confidence problem. Perhaps you are worried about saying the incorrect thing or being critiqued. Being reluctant in action is a sign that one is unsure of what to do, when to act, how to act and where to act. This is usually as a result of little or no confidence in one's ability to say and do the right thing. Ever been in a situation where a friend, co-worker or employer was going against your principles and values? 6 Not Being Opinioted.
Individuals, who agree to what everyone else's school of thoughts, without giving their own view, are suffering from low self esteem. Trusting what others think, more than you trust your own knowledge and capabilities isn't always good. It is not about disregarding other people's opinions. It simply is being able to say why you are in disagreement with their opinion. I remember someone telling me it was impossible to earn 10As for my MBA program for reasons known to them. Instead of saying "well, perhaps you are right", I looked at them straight in the eye and said "nothing is impossible when you want it strong enough". An then provided them reasons for my conviction.
7. Panicking or fearful when things are different.
If you regularly cry a river, throw tantrums, go into hiding, or become pessimistic? These are signs of low self esteem. People who have self confidence face adversity heads on and courageously. They don't run away from a fight, only to fight another day. What is Money?
According to the oxford dictionary, "Money is defined as a current medium of exchange in the form of coins and banknotes; coins and banknotes collectively. It is payment for work; wages. It is also the assets, property, and resources owned by someone or something; wealth".

It is very common to see women around the world and especially in a masculine society like Africa, who are 100 percent dependent on spouses or partners for their livelihood. This way of life is not sustainable and it should not be encouraged!

Many would argue that the man is the bread winner and should provide for his family. Whilst this is true, it should be noted that, when God decided to give Eve to Adam, he said “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper as his complement"( Genesis 2:14). He wasn't giving a burden, a child, a dependent or a trouble maker to Adam. God knew that the man needed the woman's help to navigate through life.
I cam across some shocking Statistics from Ms Kim Kiyosaki’s book “Rich Woman”.
Did you know that ;
• At least 47% of women over the age of 50 are single.
• 50% of marriages end in divorce.
• In the first year after divorcing, a woman’s standard of living drops an average of 73%.
• Of the elderly living in poverty, 3 out of 4 are women and 80% of them were not poor when their husbands were alive.
I remember listening to Anthony O’Neal telling a Story about an 80 year old looking lady who was struggling to clean his hotel room just to be able to earn some cash, and when he gave her a big tip and told her he’d clean his own room , she started raining blessing on him.
And she left him with these wise word “my son, use your youth well, create wealth while you can, so that you don’t end up like me”. Very sad story, but one with a profound lesson.

Number 1. Dilute the Extent of Dependence on a Man
There's a misconception that women who make their own money will find it hard to coexist with their partners. Women who ask for money to fuel their car, to go to a beauty salon, to buy their clothes and even their sanitary pads, are setting themselves up to be disrespected some day by their partners.
According to Reema Bint, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the USA, “the liberty for a woman comes from ability to make financial decisions for her life”.
The woman and the man should be able to meet half way and sort out the economics of the home. The man should not be overwhelmed to the point where he loses his cool, develops stress and eventually die from a heart attack.
Women should be able to relief their partner of micro expenses will not only earn them respect and consideration, but will also reduce their partner's stress levels (better health), and foster a happier and longer relationship bond.

2. Fulfil Her Passions.
Ever heard the saying "what a man can do, a woman can do better". This couldn't be truer!. Women can multi-task fantastically well, and besides being a girlfriend, wife, mom, home builder and all that, they can contribute much more to the world. Each one of us was sent to earth with a solution to an issue mankind is facing. Women are endowed with natural gifts that can be showcased in engineering, entrepreneurship, and activism, political and social leadership. A woman simply has it all and can do it all. All ambitious women would most probably be passionate about one or two projects which can be financed with their own money without having to convince their partner to believe in them or help fund their passion. Princess Diana is a perfect example of such a woman.
The princess of whales was known for her humanitarian projects for the poor and outcasts of the society. She simply went all out and showed the world, that women have other passions besides official duties as a UK princess.
The question therefore is, what are you passionate about, and how would you like to finance your passion?
When you earn your own money, you are more than capable of achieving your goals and fulfilling your destiny. Earning your own cash simply empowers you!



Number 3. Discipline Your Partner/Spouse.
I am of the opinion that men who openly disrespect their wives by cheating on them, are of the opinion that the woman is powerless. He believes he will get away with his misbehaviour because his Mrs. cannot bear to live without his check booklet and cash. It sadly is true that when a woman do not have economic power, she is likely to endure emotional torture, physical abuse and all sorts of despicable things in the hands of a man. In her book “my mother’s rules” my mentor Judge Lyne Toler of Divorce Court made some shocking revelations about the things that her mom had to endure. How her dad will make her mum scrub floors, make her sleep in the car, be called by girlfriends to go and collect her drunken man from their homes and much more. This went on until such a time when her mum couldn’t take it and she left with them to her grandma’s. The conditions of the home where not the best and she and her sister were already used to the porch neighbourhood and lavish lifestyle their dad could afford. Despite being super unhappy and her life being endangered by this man’s abuse, she dimply went back. Why? Because she did not have the financial means to look after her kids, to give them a good life and to even pay for her own livelihood.
This is the reason why most women stay in abusive relationships and end up being taken out in a gasket.
A financially viable woman who can pay her own rent, buy her own car, shop her own clothes, afford her holidays, fund her own dreams and provide for her offspring will surely tame a cheating and abusive partner.

Judging from my personal experience, my dad may have been wealthy but after his sudden demise, life quickly became sour. Don't forget that your man could be made redundant, he could lose his business, he could become ill, he could leave you for another woman, and he could even die suddenly. Men over 50 around the world are 60% more likely than women to die early. Based on Kim Kiyosaki's findings, women are likely to suffer financially in the case of a separation, Incapacitation or death of their partner/spouse. You never know when you will have to step into the man's shoes and pay for your livelihood or that of your entire family. Don't be caught off guard like the 5 foolish virgins ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them (Mathew 25:13).
My Brother Leo said something to me that hit home. He recently got married to the daughter of a prominent man who unfortunately passed. However, because of his masculinity, he felt the need to carter for his beautiful wife by paying all the bills and shouldering the entire financial burden. Here’s the sweet spot, his well educated wife stepped up to him as a queen and said “babe, let me handle some of the bills, you focus on big ticket items like the mortgage and allow me sort the micro stuff out” Wohooooo !!! He said he felt hugely relieved and couldn’t have been more proud of his decision to marry this woman. I was indeed very happy for him.
Remember that behind every great man is a greater woman. A man could be great on his own, but with his partner he is even greater and vice versa. Women should therefore strive to synergise their income and efforts with that of their partner for greater returns. Remember the more the income the merrier. Family holidays, best schools for kids and other pleasures will be taken care of effortlessly.

Number 5. Exercise Your Knowledge And Skill.
During a chat with an eligible bachelor who is passionate about entrepreneurship and female empowerment, this gentleman asked me why parents even bother spending a dime to educate their female children. "If their aspiration was to marry them off to a man who would make them house wives, why bother educating them?” Some women spend years to gain formal education all the way up to PhD level. Surely this should not go to waste!
In a chat with Oprah, Michele Obama said when she had her first daughter, Barrack was a senator but she just could not bring herself to be limited by that. He wanted to earn her own money and put her own knowledge to task. After all she was a Harvard graduate and she was well capable of delivering. so she took her baby daughter with her to a job interview and told the recruiter that if he must give her the opportunity to be excellent at her job, he must understand that her daughter would be a part of the show. Now that’s a queen. She knew her value and her worth, and she definitely didn’t want to wait for Mr Senator to fund her livelihood.
After acquiring all this knowledge, skills and experiences, it is expected of you to step into the market place and trade your value for a reward? By putting your know how to constructive use, you are not only a blessing to the world, you provide employment for others, you feel a sense of worth whilst gaining financial independence.
Number 6. Complement Your Partner/Spouse.
When women fall for the full time house wife story, they shoot themselves in the foot. No doubt, it is fantastic to be home to raise your kids, however, that's a story most women tell themselves for not putting in an extra effort to earn their own money. Remember that being limited to the role of a housewife (chores, kids, marital duties) caps your intellectual, professional, mental and emotional growth. You become tied to this one man who on the other hand is growing exponentially as a result of his job, outdoor exposure and interactions. According to the oxford dictionary, "Money is defined as a current medium of exchange in the form of coins and banknotes; coins and banknotes collectively. It is payment for work; wages. It is also the assets, property, and resources owned by someone or something; wealth".

It is very common to see women around the world and especially in a masculine society like Africa, who are 100 percent dependent on spouses or partners for their livelihood. This way of life is not sustainable and it should not be encouraged!

Many would argue that the man is the bread winner and should provide for his family. Whilst this is true, it should be noted that, when God decided to give Eve to Adam, he said “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper as his complement"( Genesis 2:14). He wasn't giving a burden, a child, a dependent or a trouble maker to Adam. God knew that the man needed the woman's help to navigate through life.
I cam across some shocking Statistics from Ms Kim Kiyosaki’s book “Rich Woman”.
Did you know that ;
• At least 47% of women over the age of 50 are single.
• 50% of marriages end in divorce.
• In the first year after divorcing, a woman’s standard of living drops an average of 73%.
• Of the elderly living in poverty, 3 out of 4 are women and 80% of them were not poor when their husbands were alive.
I remember listening to Anthony O’Neal telling a Story about an 80 year old looking lady who was struggling to clean his hotel room just to be able to earn some cash, and when he gave her a big tip and told her he’d clean his own room , she started raining blessing on him.
And she left him with these wise word “my son, use your youth well, create wealth while you can, so that you don’t end up like me”. Very sad story, but one with a profound lesson.




SO here are the 6 Reasons Why Women Should Earn Their Own Cash.
Number 1. Dilute the Extent of Dependence on a Man
There's a misconception that women who make their own money will find it hard to coexist with their partners. Women who ask for money to fuel their car, to go to a beauty salon, to buy their clothes and even their sanitary pads, are setting themselves up to be disrespected some day by their partners.
According to Reema Bint, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the USA, “the liberty for a woman comes from ability to make financial decisions for her life”.
The woman and the man should be able to meet half way and sort out the economics of the home. The man should not be overwhelmed to the point where he loses his cool, develops stress and eventually die from a heart attack.
Women should be able to relief their partner of micro expenses will not only earn them respect and consideration, but will also reduce their partner's stress levels (better health), and foster a happier and longer relationship bond.

Ever heard the saying "what a man can do, a woman can do better". This couldn't be truer!. Women can multi-task fantastically well, and besides being a girlfriend, wife, mom, home builder and all that, they can contribute much more to the world. Each one of us was sent to earth with a solution to an issue mankind is facing. Women are endowed with natural gifts that can be showcased in engineering, entrepreneurship, and activism, political and social leadership. A woman simply has it all and can do it all. All ambitious women would most probably be passionate about one or two projects which can be financed with their own money without having to convince their partner to believe in them or help fund their passion. Princess Diana is a perfect example of such a woman.

Hmmm... Who are your friends?

You all know I am obsessed with definitions, so let's dive into one.

According to the Oxford dictionary, a friend is person with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically one exclusive of sexual or family relations.

Hmmmm very interesting definition.

You most probably have heard the saying, "show me your friends and I'll tell you who you are"

On the back drop of the official definition, I decided to form an unorthodox definition of a friend which will be the back bone of today's content.

I am of the opinion that a friend is anything or anyone who can impact your life in one way or the other.
They often have the ability to influence your
-thoughts
-actions
-decisions
And your life in a general sense.

That's a friend.

You have probably wondered why some people are so close to their pet animals, or extremely loyal to a radio station host, or a TV series etc...

These are their friends.. They would put a hult to everything else to attend to these friends.

Friends are not only physical human beings like Mary, Kuden, Tracy.

Your friends are equally the books you read.

Your friends are the podcasts you are subscribed to.

Your friends are the movies you watch.

Your friends are the mentor you look up to.

Your friends are the Facebook, whatsapp or other groups you belong to.

Your friends are the YouTube, tiktok or other videos you consume

These unorthodox friends impact you life in ways that are beyond your imagination!

Having said that, does that make any sense to you?

A very wise man once said ;

"Your friends determine your values, and your values will determine your decisions. Your decisions will most likely determine your actions and your actions will most likely be reflected on the results you get" .

It definitely gets more interesting if we turn it around.

If your results are nothing to write home about, you should check your actions that led to the results you got.
If your actions were not so good, you want to check the decisions you made. And if your decisions where not all that, you must check your values. And if you values were not good, please check your friends immediately.

If you want to change your life today, all you need to do is change your friends.

What you consume is a direct result of your friends (the environment you're in, the physical friends you hang out with, the books you read or don't read, the Netflix shows you binge watch the YouTube channel or podcast you are subscribed to or not subscribed to).

These are the uncommon friends you must welcome with open arms today, in order to change your life for the best.

Number 1: Books
Books can be extremely resourceful for your independence. Warren buffet, the 6th richest man in the world recommends this and I quote " read 500 pages everyday. That's how knowledge works. It builds up like compound interest".

Books provide you with a compressed format of knowledge acquired by other people, decades of researched work and even solutions to problems that you face in different areas of your life and your business. If you live in a poor neighbourhood, or have not so good physical friends etc.. Immerse yourself in books and bask in that wealth of knowledge and wisdom that you wouldn't gain otherwise.

Number 2 : online research.
You probably have heard the saying " don't be Google frugal".
You can find a wealth of free information on serch engines like Google, Baidu, bing and yahoo.
Google however is the most popular amongst them, always ready to help you find exactly what you are looking for.

This particular friend can help you learn a actual information about your school work, your heath, your business, your relationship, your religion and much more to help you set the right priorities for your life. After all, even the bible warned us in Hosea 4:1 and I quotr" my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge "

Remember however, that not everything on the Internet is true. You must learn good research skills like,

- double checking that some other sources are in agreement with what you already found.

- verify the credibility if the information (academic or expertise)

Number 3: Audio Recordings

An example of a friend under this category is a good and solid podcast like the young, black and independent show. Instead of listening to gossips, focus on listening to value added programs that make you smarter, rather foolish.
A study performed by the Cambridge University found that "sample groups of subjects regularly make thesame assumptions about people's personalities, values, social class and even their ethnicity, based on their musical preferences!.
I found that mind blowing.
The results of this research definitely remind me of the " show me your friends and I'll you who you are" quote.

You may not realise it immediately, but the information you listen to has a direct effect in your hormones. Listening to enjoyable music like the one I have on the background reduces levels of the hormone cortisol in your body, preventing the effects of chronic stress. Remember that 60% of all illnesses and deseases are caused by stress. Chose what you listen to meticulously and wisely .

The last but not the least friends are videos.
You can consume video information via TV programs, YouTube, teacherTube, tiktok and so on...
According to a Elaine, a PhD holder in psychology, people who watch as little as 15 minutes of "negative TV news" have shown a rise in depressed moods, uneasiness, and a tendency to be more "catastrophic" about their personal worries.

Which is why focusing on positive and less dramatic news, movies or videos in general increases your likelihood of experiencing an increased of the productive immuno - globin A( which is one of our first four lines of defense against attacking micro-organisms).

So... I will end today's show by saying that instead of consuming music, videos, audios, and magazines that are a torture to your body and spirit, perhaps it's best to make it a habit of exclusively letting in only the type of content that impacts your life in all the good ways

He says entrepreneurship is not for the fainthearted or a quick money making scheme. He compared entrepreneurship to the chinese bamboo which takes 5 years of nurturing before a seed germinates , and in just 5 weeks, it grows upto 90ft tall. I find that fascinating. This is a perfect demonstration of what success is. You have to put in the work before you can harvest the fruits of your labour.
Kevin suggested 4 best businesses to venture into with a capital of 100,000 CFA Francs.
1. Agriculture : His recommednation is to lease a piece of land from seasonal farmers, like cocoa farmers for just under 25,000frs, buy and plant seddlings like cucumber, pepper and tomato.
2. Extraction of fruit juices .Buy rejected fruits from farmers and convert to fruit juices. All you need is a fruit processor to kick start.
3. Buy and sell cotton underwear for men and women who work for adminstrative offices like CNPS , who may not have time to go the market and source them out.
5. Branding Tshirts and Polo shirts for sale. Looking for people who have occassions like birthdays, funerals, partiess etc who need branded shirts.

There are four types of scholarships

This is a common scholarship, mostly available only to the university you want to study at. These scholarships can be applied for after you have received an offer from that university.

Studying the UK
Many people aspire to study most famous UK Universities like Oxford and Cambridge, but have little or no financial capacity to do so. It is true that the UK provides some of the best higher education in the world; however it does not come cheap. Therefore, for students from low income back grounds, scholarships can be the best route to these excellent opportunities.
The United Kingdom government is known for its generous scholarships, bursaries and financial support to students from developing countries. To know if your country is a beneficiary to these scholarships, you should visit The UK’s council for development affairs …..
It is important to note that 90% of the programmes require English test score, particular for non English speaking countries.

Anglophone Cameroonian and students from other angloxanson countries can get exoneration from proof of English proficiency if they have a good grade in Ordinary Levels GCE English Language.

If you want to study and book for the IELTS test, you should check the British council website in your country. For Cameroonians it cost about XAF162000.




Steps to apply for undergraduate scholarship;
You must pass through the UCAs system to apply for undergraduate universities in the UK.
What is the UCAS?
The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service is a UK-based organisation whose main role is to operate the application process for British universities. It operates as an independent charity, funded by fees charged to applicants and to universities, plus advertising income.
For upper sixth students who are yet to write their GCE exams, now is the best time to apply for your university choices via the UCAS system.
For those of you who have had your GCE, you can consider this year as a gap year, and make your applications via UCAS for the next academic year.

So let me tell you how it works;
1-Research the university you want to go to and check what their scholarships are

2-You have to chose a maximum number of 5 universities


3-After choosing your universities, you must pay a processing fee of £20 around XAF 15000 for Cameroonian students.

4-Once the payment is made, you will be given login details and you will have a UCAS account through which you can make your application and chose the universities you already researched on


5-Once you submit the applications for all 5 universities, they will come back to you with an offer or a decline.

6-Once you received a response from all the universities, you have a limited amount of time to choose the 2 best from your list. And amongst the two, you will have to make one your firm choice and the other, your second choice.

Lastly
7-Once that is done, if you meet the admission criteria from the firm choice, all the other choices are automatically cancelled and you now have to start travel procedures. This will be discussed in the next episode…
Final Thoughts
Despite the tight competition, the UK offers one of the best financial aids for needy students. However, it is important to perform an effective research on the funding options for your dream university, reach out to the local foreign embassies, large organisations and even the local government education bodies.
The UK will be a fantastic study destination for you.
I haven’t done the research yet, but I shall find out if students on scholarship are able to apply for work for at least 2 years after their graduation. Or if you are able to engage in 20 hours of part time work as a student.

The only way we can be heard and seen, is if we improve our socio-economic conditions.
Remember that when you have financial independence, you are able to go about your business without being a burden to anyone.
This is the only way we can be seen and accepted by the global village. We have to understand this and wake up from our slumber.
Most countries on the African continent are either poor or developing countries.
After my research, I feel so blessed and privileged to be counted amongst the educated women from the African continent with an MBA and Aspiring for a PhD.
I would like to mention Some disheartening facts about education in Africa
Did you know that;

1.Africa has the highest rates of educational exclusion in the world. Over one-fifth of children between the ages of 6 and 11 and one-third between the ages of 12 and 14 are out of school

2.Almost 60% of children in sub-Saharan Africa between the ages of 15 and 17 are not in school.


3.Girls are much more likely to stay out of school than boys. Nine million girls between the ages of about 6 and 11 in Africa will never go to school at all, compared to six million boys.

4.A UNESCO study in 2012 showed that the number of primary-aged children not attending school in Africa accounted for more than half of the global total.


5.The rate of gross enrolment in tertiary education in sub-Saharan Africa is the lowest in the world, sitting at only eight percent as of 2014. This is far lower than the gross enrolment of the second-lowest country, Southern Asia, which is at 23%, where the global average is 34%.
6.If every girl in sub-Saharan Africa completed even just primary education, the maternal mortality rate would likely decrease by 70%.

The statistics mentioned above should be a powering force for those of us who have been priviledged to receive an education in Africa, all the way up to A levels, and Bachelors especially.

All the young smart Africans who are currently going through secondary school should strive for excellence. The governance may have let us down, but we can’t let ourselves down.

You all have to strive towards academic excellence in order to comeback and support those who were not opportune like us.

The most popular scholarship for Africans is the Chevening Scholarships are the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme offers awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study for a master’s degree in any subject at any UK university. A Chevening Scholarship normally covers university tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, an economy class return airfare to the UK, and additional grants and allowances to cover essential expenditure.
Issued to Around 1,500 applicants globally
As at today the date and time of this recording, the Deadline to make the application for this scholarship is Nov 2021, two months from now. And the Course starts Sept/Oct 2022
Eligibility:
What are the eligibility criteria for a Chevening Scholarship?
• Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
• Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your scholarship has ended
• Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time you submit your application. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK but may be different depending on your course and university choice.
• Have at least two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience.
• Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 15 July 2022.
Applications for Chevening Awards can only be submitted using the Chevening online application system, available through the ‘apply’ button on your country’s page. The deadline for applications is 2 November 2021 at 12:00 GMT (midday).

The scarcity mentality is the belief that if others have more you will have less. It is a belief about limitation.
Such a mindset is driven by fear and it demonstrates your lack of confidence and faith in God’s power to supply all your needs according to his purpose and abundance of resources. And according to” Dorothy Smith, “It is based on the faulty assumption that if someone else has something, you can’t have it because there’s only one pie available and every slice that someone else gets, means less is available for you.
I personally believe it is Completely false!...
Why there’s a Scarcity Mentality in Africa.
A scarcity mentality in some of our communities is rooted in the fact that people are reluctant to share ideas because they are worried about their share of the pie being reduced, as though there wasn’t enough to go around. If someone stole your idea, at least they steal your brain. If you conceived one idea, you can conceive many more, one of which will that financial independence you are seeking...
Always fix your mind on the fact that there’s plenty to go around.
Because by nourishing a scarcity mentality your own financial independence is constrained by the fact that you refrain from trying something because you think there are too many people doing it already, even though the character or the idea of your project can well be completely different from that of the person next door.

The African scarcity mentality has a Nasty Side which is that;

Some people in our communities would rather not promote each other for fear that one person is going to get all the business or money, or they’ll become too love, or they take all the communities’ loyalty and prominence.

So when I was in Douala, Cameroon I often bought fruits from an amazing lady at Rond Poulin Makepe on my way home from work. She was always so nice; I couldn’t bring myself to buy fruits from anyone else, though there were many others who sold the same fruits as her. I noticed cars would queue to buy from her, rather than buy from some of the others. One day a friend told me that she heard a rumour that the lady was using witchcraft to attract the clients to her so that she will have the entire pie.. ahahaha it just made me laugh!!!

First off, I didn’t think I was under a spell. I deliberately bought from this woman because she was very polite, sweet, kind, fast service and her kids were always there helping her after school, and above all she had fresh fruits at good prices... I don’t see what witchcraft has got to do with that.

If someone’s business is a success, some people are more inclined to sabotage it in the erroneous belief that they would get a bigger share of “the pie” as a consequence.

Also, there’s a Common scenario of ignoring a friend’s request to like, share or promote their business on social media. And the only explanation I could come up with is that, people who do this have a scarcity mentality or are outright envious. If it does not cost you money to do it, why won’t you?

If you seek financial independence, the first thing is to ensure that you are not a victim of the scarcity mentality.
I’ll use two examples to validate the theory of abundance..
The first example is e is the music industry. Think about how many songs are released yearly, yet you still have people dancing and listening to old songs and new songs alike.
I remember when the famous Cameroonian song “koler la petite” was released. So many people embraced its beats and danced to it joyfully. Malox the artist would not have blessed his listeners with his art, if he allowed his inner critic or scarcity mentality to dominate his thoughts, we would never have had that song, and he sure would not have been the success that he is today.

The second example is that of the Pop Star Roby Fenty, commonly known as Rihanna.
Rihanna , launched her line of 40 different foundation shades in 2017, something which had never been done before.
The aim of the line was to appeal to "every type of woman”. In just one year, the line had a total sale of over $550 million in annual revenue.

Despite thousands of beauty and lingerie brands on the market, she simply identified her niche and decided to go all in.. She clearly didn’t go into that industry with a dearth mind or to play the fainthearted.
If Rihanna bought into that scarcity mentality story, she would never have become a billionaire or the second richest woman in the world.
One key thing to mention about this story is that Rihanna had the vision but might not have had all the resources so she found someone to partner with. Which underslines the importance of sharing ideas and forging partnerships. You can do the same.. Don’t be scared that your idea will be stolen… and if it ever was, don’t give up. Always remember, there’s plenty to go around..

Let me tell you four impacts of the Scarcity Mindset on your Success.
1.You remain stuck in your comfort zone for fear that striving for more might cost you the little you already have.

2. Your success level is capped by your belief. You can’t really take the risk to expand your business because you believe there aren’t enough customers to buy from your completion and you as well.

3.Makes you a bad team player. You don’t want to share valid information or give your colleague that review that will get him a promotion because you believe you deserve it more and there won’t be enough promotions to go round.

4.You focus on the insufficiency and miss out on the unlimited opportunities.

Now that you know what it does to you, this is how you overcome
1-Rebrand your self
2-Stick to a niche
3-Focus on your talent and not your inner critic or external influences
4- Remind yourself of God’s promise in 2 Corinthians 9;8 “ And God if able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times ...YOUR MIND & IMAGINATION = ABUNDANCE OR LACK!.

To conclude;
If you are a victim of the scarcity mentality in your professional life, business, relationships or any other area, please consider the 3rd Law of motion(for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction). When you stand in the way of someone’s success, success cannot come to you.

A scarcity mentality in some of our communities is rooted in the fact that people are reluctant to share ideas because they are worried about their share of the pie being reduced, as though there wasn’t enough to go around. If someone stole your idea, at least they steal your brain. If you conceived one idea, you can conceive many more, one of which will that financial independence you are seeking...
Always fix your mind on the fact that there’s plenty to go around.
Because by nourishing a scarcity mentality your own financial independence is constrained by the fact that you refrain from trying something because you think there are too many people doing it already, even though the character or the idea of your project can well be completely different from that of the person next door.

The African scarcity mentality has a Nasty Side which is that;

Some people in our communities would rather not promote each other for fear that one person is going to get all the business or money, or they’ll become too love, or they take all the communities’ loyalty and prominence.

So when I was in Douala, Cameroon I often bought fruits from an amazing lady at Rond Poulin Makepe on my way home from work. She was always so nice; I couldn’t bring myself to buy fruits from anyone else, though there were many others who sold the same fruits as her. I noticed cars would queue to buy from her, rather than buy from some of the others. One day a friend told me that she heard a rumour that the lady was using witchcraft to attract the clients to her so that she will have the entire pie.. ahahaha it just made me laugh!!!

First off, I didn’t think I was under a spell. I deliberately bought from this woman because she was very polite, sweet, kind, fast service and her kids were always there helping her after school, and above all she had fresh fruits at good prices... I don’t see what witchcraft has got to do with that.

If someone’s business is a success, some people are more inclined to sabotage it in the erroneous belief that they would get a bigger share of “the pie” as a consequence.

Also, there’s a Common scenario of ignoring a friend’s request to like, share or promote their business on social media. And the only explanation I could come up with is that, people who do this have a scarcity mentality or are outright envious. If it does not cost you money to do it, why won’t you?

If you seek financial independence, the first thing is to ensure that you are not a victim of the scarcity mentality.
I’ll use two examples to validate the theory of abundance..
The first example is e is the music industry. Think about how many songs are released yearly, yet you still have people dancing and listening to old songs and new songs alike.
I remember when the famous Cameroonian song “koler la petite” was released. So many people embraced its beats and danced to it joyfully. Malox the artist would not have blessed his listeners with his art, if he allowed his inner critic or scarcity mentality to dominate his thoughts, we would never have had that song, and he sure would not have been the success that he is today.

You must have heard or experienced a situation where a supposed cute guy walked past with a supposed “ugly” woman and people stared and made comments like “I wonder what that man has seen in that ugly woman, in pidgin language “see that fine man with some wowo woman”. Some would generally follow with comments like; the woman has cast some spell on the man, or satisfies his needs or has money.
And if the roles are reversed, you would hear people say stuff like, she’s only after the ugly man’s money, and she’s a sugar baby and all the like…
Now, let me just put it out there that…
A woman must not have long eyelashes, or the hourglass shape or even the pouty lips that are the stereotypes of beauty. By the same token, a man may not be broad-chested or tall dark and handsome, as we have often read in romance novels.
But as you will soon realise, one of my famous quotes "beauty is only skin deep" has never been truer.
Now think about it…., if an eligible bachelor with a good head on his shoulders settles for a woman who is considered as ugly by societal norms... shouldn’t that be a tell-tale sign that the sort of beauty that young people strive to display is misplaced? That is, the one which has seen an explosion in the use of imported hair, plastic surgeries and the application of all types of cosmetic products?
After all, your bad attitude, and emptiness cannot be photo shopped and therefore, no matter how artificial you opt to become, you will never be beautiful.
You know why, because as Shannon Delany right said “Beauty is only skin deep, everybody has ugly days. We’re all made of the same stuff underneath. Acting right is better than looking right. You have to realize what makes you special beyond looks. Evil can look pretty on the outside”.
So, I did some research and found out that Africans are so obsessed with the prospects of outer beauty, that we spent 1.6 billion dollars on the importation of hair and beauty products in 2019 alone.
It is now very common to see a young woman who doesn’t have a penny in the bank, a business, nor an investment of any sort, wearing hair worth hundreds of dollars. Sometimes to show off, sometimes to keep up with the Jone’s and other times to feel good about her.
The most alarming one is use of skin bleaching products to alter one’s natural colour completely.
Skin bleaching is a multibillion-dollar global industry. According to my research, at least four out of every 10 women in Africa bleach their skin (source World Health Organisation). According to PubMed, 75% of Nigerian women and between 52% and 67% of Senegalese women use skin lightening products.
Studies have shown that, skin bleaching products cause…. bacterial skin infection, glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes, and neurological diseases.
Kudos to African countries such as Rwanda, Tanzania, Ghana, Kenya, Cote d’Ivoire, South Sudan, and Nigeria who have all placed a ban on the importation of skin bleaching products as at 2019 statistics. I wonder what the other African countries are waiting for.
This is not to say that you should not be especially concerned about your personal appearance. We at the YBI recommend you to take pride in your appearance, both to feel good in your own skin but also because it could be the X factor that gets you through the door on your road to financial independence. However, you should be aware that this outward beauty is ephemeral and you will need to dig deeper within yourself to water and prune that inner longer lasting beauty in order to flourish.
Now let’s talk about the real deal…..

Her resilience and self confidence have propelled her to success, from being nicknamed a "sack girl", she now has an entire team of stylists who get her all dolled up in gorgeous, red carpet-ready gowns, and her work closet at Harpo Studios in Chicago is filled to the brim with designers duds.
Patricia Bright
Born in London to immigrant parents from Nigeria, Patricia and her sister went through a hard knock life. She Patricia said “I was always referred to as the ugly friend", and it affected my self confidence". Patricia's mum was a cleaner and they would often follow their mum to clean offices in London at 4am in the morning before heading to school. However, her humble beginnings were a stepping stone into her success. Patricia worked hard at school, graduated as an accounting student, worked in the financial industry before deciding to become a YouTuber and social media influencer full time. Today at 34, she is worth $1.2million, a dazzling beauty, a mum, and a role model to many of her followers.
Ms Viola Davis
According to her story to glamour magazine, Ms Davis remembers digging through a dumpster and being always hungry at school, ashamed and unable to tap into her potential. She remembers being chased by young white boys calling her ugly, black and all that. However, on the back of her love for acting in high school, she was awarded a scholarship to study theatre at Rhode Island College and to attend the Juilliard School in New York City. Today, Ms Davis is a critically acclaimed actress of film, television, and theatre and has won rave reviews for her multitude of substantial and intriguingly diverse roles. Audiences across the United States and internationally admire her for her work. At 55, she is worth $15million and works tirelessly to give back to the hungry children in her community.
It is true that there is an element of affordability which is associated with the way these great women look. But you must look beyond that perspective to understand that;
•Self assurance
•Confidence
•Achievement
•Peace of mind
•Generosity of spirit
•Manners and etiquette
•Intellect and
•purpose
Are all attributes that have contributed to making these women glow beyond what any expensive clothes or makeup can ever achieve. These women are beautiful, not because of any special physical endowment which they may have, but because of their characters. And so they will attract the best partners. Because a partnership which comes with these assets is far more appealing that one which comes with the liability of expensive cosmetic habits.
Oprah said something very powerful that has remained with me,
She said “we have all got to take responsibility for the space we hold here on earth, and to understand the 3rd law of motion which says that for every action there’s an equal and opposite reaction.
She said I don’t care how beautiful you may think you are , i care how much buttocks or how many times you get yourself pulled up, and how many hair dos or makeovers you have, none of it is going to last.
The one thing that will last forever is “who you are and what you were meant to bring”. What is the gift you were meant to give?.
