Welcome back to the ParTee and back to one of our favorite styles of episodes, the CLOSET PANEL! Fortunately for us it’s been a good year and we were able to upgrade from a closet to an office / studio space so we have re-branded these episodes and would like to introduce to you the ParTee Panel! As usual we got together with Nick Carl and Paul McBeth to discuss everything going on in professional disc golf from the perspective of four competitors with completely different goals in the sport. She provided us with so much insight about starting out, the grind, playing about 30 professional events a year, how she avoids burnout, and of course lots of chatter about her goals and where she’s off to next. Welcome back to the ParTee! In TOURNAMENT TALK we discuss the MVP Open at Maple Hill and similar yet individual success of Catrina Allen, Kona Panis, and Paige Pierce. Did you know Paige has won this event six times in the last eight years? Did you know Kona Panis took last place at this event in 2016, the year she first started competing in pro events? We did and we’re going to get into it! We also cover the Green Mountain Championships and the roller coaster ride that was Hailey King’s tournament (seriously she went from shooting 5 over par to 9 under par, what a ride).
Our INTERVIEW this week is none other than Hailey King herself! She quickly caught up with us about her reactions to her win, what she felt brought her the success she’s been experiencing and she also opens up about doubt and battles she faces with not feeling worthy of some of the success she’s had. Let’s face it, she’s only 19 years old and her pro career is super young compared to the other women in her division.
Ellen Widboom also joins the ParTee to talk about her touring goals for 2021 and her reasoning behind deciding to skip a majority of the Elite series events throughout the year. Turns out going to the same place every year is not her style and she likes to switch it up. Our INTERVIEW this week is with Matt Grayum, host of the Nick and Matt show on youtube, host of Pro Tour Talk with Matt and Josh on the Disc Golf Network, founder of Kids Disc Golf, and Matt has assisted the disc golf media community numerous times behind the camera’s that bring you live and post produced disc golf.
We have had so many conversations and answered so many questions about becoming a professional disc golfer, touring full time, and making the dream come true, but we never talk about the jobs behind the scenes.
Christine and I were lucky enough to sit down with Matt in his studio and talk about how he came to be involved in the sport, and how others can do the same. We have more discussions about the media presence in the sport: if the DGPT should limit the number of events they go live at, if we’re too far removed from beginner media teams and only looking for experienced, established teams, Matt’s opinions on the talent on coverage, and even how much we in media rely on the pro’s for content! We weren’t procrastinating, it just took us a month to process what the heck happened (or something like that). This week in HOT HEADLINES Christine and I discuss our experience at the Discraft Great Lakes Open, the most recent Disc Golf Pro Tour event in Michigan. We also check on our friends over in Europe and discuss Eagle McMahon, an herbivore in the Open division, and his dramatic win. In TOURNAMENT RESULTS we are talking all things FPO from DGLO. Did you know Ellen Widboom eats mostly plant-based protein now and that’s (probably) why she made all those circle 2 putts? Amazing. We’re also discussing results from the other top A-tiers.
