The importance of Taqwa

-It is the advice given to the first and to the last “We have recommended to the people of the Scripture before you, and to you (O Muslims) that you (all) fear Allah, and keep your duty to Him, 4:131”
-The prophet, may Allah raise his rank and status said: “Fear Allah wherever you are”
-The Salaf used to advice with this often
-The one who has Taqwa will be protected by Allah
-Know the closeness of Allah to us (by his knowledge) and his ability over us “And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein (by Our Knowledge)” 50:15
-Taqwa is mentioned in the Qur’an alongside piety – when they are mentioned together piety refers to fulfilling good deeds and Taqwa refers to staying away from evil. When Taqwa is mentioned on its own it refers to both

“O you who believe! If you obey and fear Allah, He will grant you Furqan a criterion, and will expiate for you your sins, and forgive you, and Allah is the Owner of the Great Bounty” 8:29

Three benefits from this verse for the one who has Taqwa:
1.Allah will make knowledge easy for him. He will open up doors to knowledge for him, improve his memory and give him strong understanding. Allah gives the one with Taqwa, Firaasah, the ability to have deep understanding and to distinguish between the people
2.Allah will expiate his sins, and this also comes from doing righteous deeds. Eg the “an umrah to an umrah is an expiation to the sins [that have been committed] in between”. Allah makes righteous deeds easy for him.
3.Allah will make tawbah, repentance, easy for him. This is from the blessings upon a servant. “Shaitan (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah and from As-Salat (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain?” 5:91

Be continuous and consistent in studying. He should strive in learning and being patient. He should protect what the learnt (by reviewing). Knowledge is not gained with a body that is relaxed. He should stay away from anything that busies him from seeking knowledge.

Ibn Abbaas was asked, how did you gain knowledge: “with a tongue that will ask, a heart that attentively understands and a body that does not rest”, in another narration he said“if I know of a hadith that another companion has, I will go to his door, and I will wait there and the wind will blow the dust onto me and when he comes out, he would say [to me] O cousin of the messenger, may Allah raise his rank and status, why did you come? Why did you not call me and I would come to you. He responded “I am more in right to come to you” [to seek knowledge]. He was humble in learning knowledge, and Allah raised him. The prophet said, whoever humbles himself to Allah, He will raise him”.

Imaam Sa’di mentioned that the scholar of Arabic language, Imaam kasaai’ee told him he studied Arabic grammar but was unable to grasp it in the beginning. He said I saw an ant, carrying up a wall and each time it goes up, it dropped its food. It was striving to reach its objective. He then strove hard and attained the knowledge.
A person should strive to memorise and revise what he has read. “Knowledge is prey and writing protects it. So protect your benefit by tying the rope [write and memorise it]”

"for those who accept guidance, He increases their guidance, and bestows on them their piety" 47:17

One should stick to the scholars and benefit from them. Shaykh Rabee said that 1 hour with a scholar is better than many hours of research. Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen said the student of knowledge should gain knowledge from one shaykh to begin and then move on to the next scholar. The scholars from the Salaf would benefit from the scholars in their areas and then move on to other areas.

His forefathers were from the freed slaves of Zayd ibn Khattaab. His father was a Jew, and was dispraised by the Jews of the time, because of his corruption of the Torah. He was described as being dishevelled and wearing dirty clothing.
Many of the scholars made takfeer of him, based on his distortions of the Book of Allah.
Abu Hakeem gives a brief bio of Bishr al-Mareesi and then refutes his misguided creed. He then brings a number of benefits from this book refuting the innovated beliefs of Bishr al-Mareesi.

The companions never differed in Aqeedah or the foundations of the religion. He explains how their creed came about and how this links with the beliefs common among Muslims today.

Abul Hassan al-Ash’ari (d. 329 AH) whom the Ash’arees ascribe themselves to, was a Mu’tazilee until the age of 40. He then adopted the ideology of the Kullaabiyah. Jahm ibn Safwaan and Ja’d ibn Dirham the predecessors of ibn Kullaab were so extreme that they were executed due to their extreme believes.

•Allaah said, “We sent to every nation a preacher saying worship Allaah alone and stay away from those false deity’s.”

•These ayaats highlight the purpose of our creation. This is something that a person needs to recollect every day.
•The scholars have mentioned that you may be doing an action from the worldly affairs and you could be rewarded for it as it will aid you to fulfil the Islamic rights.
•You can only ever fulfil your objective by seeking knowledge – recognizing what is in the Qu’ran and sunnah
•A person who deprives himself of knowledge, you are depriving yourself the very reason as to why we have been created
•Ali said, “Every person who does a job has the relevant tools. As for the person who is Muslim, then he requires the relevant tools of being a Muslim.” Those tools are knowledge of the Qu’ran and the sunnah.
•What is sunnah what is shirk? Knowledge is very important as you cannot fulfil your role as a Muslim without them.
•The Prophet ﷺ said, “whomsoever treads upon a pathway seeking knowledge, Allaah will make his pathway to Paradise easier.”
•The salaf used to say, “Knowledge is such a thing, even those who don’t have it, want to pretend they have it.” Nobody wants to be known as a jaahil.
•The Prophet said, “Whomsoever Allaah wants goodness for, Allaah gives him detailed knowledge.” A person who is jaahil it is a sign that he has no goodness.
•The Quran is not just a book, it is the speech of your Lord.
•The sunnah that came to the Prophet ﷺ is something that must be taken lightly.
•Shaykh Fawzaan said, “Do not be Muslim by name only.”
•The Prophet said, “The best of you is the one who learns the Qu’ran and teaches it.”
•A person who calls to goodness will get the reward of those that followed in that.
•A person who calls to evil, will get the sin for those that followed in that evil
•The Prophet ﷺ said, “Would anyone of you like to go to a lake in Medina and come back with 2 large well-fed camels.” They said, “Of course.” He ﷺ said, “In that case, if one of you was to go to the masjid early and learn/read 2 ayahs from the Qu’ran then that would be better for him than the 2 well fed camels.”
•Allaah raises the people of knowledge
•Knowledge is not something that you do in your spare time. Knowledge is something that needs priority.
•Allaah says, “Protect yourselves and your families from the Hellfire.”

Today we covered – The purpose of our creation/ The importance and value of knowledge - A reminder from Shaykh Bin Baaz


•Indeed Allaah created the creation in order for them to worship Him alone
•He sent the messengers and revealed the books for this great purpose, in order to worship Him
•Allaah said in the Quran, “Verily I did not create the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me alone.”
•Allaah is Ar-Razzaaq – The one who provides the sustenance
•If you tried to count the blessings of Allaah you would not be able to numerate them
•Allaah said, “O people, Worship your Lord, the one who created you and created the ones before you so that you achieve piety.”

The origin with the Salaf was that the Kataateeb (Schools) were at home. The adults taught at home what they had learnt in the lessons in the masaajid. Teaching them the pillars of Islam, Imaan and other foundations of the religion.

Sow the seed of love and magnification of Allaah in their hearts. Make clear to them the many blessings of Allaah upon them, the clear and hidden blessings. The specific and general blessings. Mention the signs of Allaah to them. Likewise sow the seed of love for the Messenger Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam in their hearts and explain to them the good that came for this Ummah at his hands.
Teach your children to be truthful in their actions and speech. So do not lie to them when you speak to them. If you promise them, do not break these promises. If they see you lying to them then they will begin to lie. Or if they see you being lax in keeping promises then likewise they will become lax.

Sow the seed of love for the believers in their heart. Make it clear that the believers are like one body.

We can encourage or children upon learning and memorising by offering a reward. Encourage those children that are capable to read the books of tafsir like the Tafsir of Imam As Sa’di and the sound, correct books of History of Islam. Warn them from reading the harmful books that can harm the Aqeedah of an individual and his mannerisms.

It is important to teach your children about evil. As the one who does not know the evil, will fall into it. 9In the Hadeeth of Hudayfah Ibn Al Yamaan:

“The people used to ask the Prophet Sallallaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam about the good, but I used to ask him about the evil, fearing to fall into it. “

Indeed our responsibility in front of Allaah as it relates to our children and families is great so we ask Allaah - the One who burdened us with this responsibility - that he grants us success to rectify and correct ourselves and our families. So Islām wants for everyone to understand their roles in nurturing the household - from before marriage all the way up to the birth and growth of a child.

And especially in the difficult times we are in; where the fitnah is great; and the natural fitrah of children is under attack- it is most vital to know and have the tools and means to protecting their family and children. The basis of this protection is to seek knowledge first - so that you have a strong base of knowledge to deflect any fitnah that may befall you.

Ibn Umar said, discipline your child for indeed you will be question about him. What did you discipline him upon, what did you teach him? He will be questioned regarding being good to you, fulfilling your rights and obedience to you.

How to discipline a child:

1.Make dua to Allah, you can succeed in anything except with the Aid from Allah. You should constantly make dua to Allah.
2.Be just between the children in all matters. The prophet said “Be just and fair between your children, be just and fair between your children, be just and fair between your children”.
3.Giving care to their character because a child grows upon that which he becomes accustomed to and has been nurtured upon.
4.Keep children away from idle talk, music, obscene talk, evil speech and innovation when they start to become aware of things.
5.Put effort into teaching children. Knowledge is not gained with relaxation and laziness.
6.They should be given activities to do.
7.A child must be accustomed to wake up at the last part of the time (for prayer), that’s when the sustained is divided. If a child is trained upon this from a young age, it becomes easier later.
8.A child must be kept away from excessive eating, sleeping and sinning.
9.They should be protected from affairs that can intoxicate them and from accompanying those who may corrupt them, and taking from them, for they will lose their shame.
10.Boys should be protected from wearing silk.
11.If a child shows aptitude to a certain skill and is interested in it, one should encourage and aid him upon that.

Ibn Uthaymeen on the parents:

When you instruct you child to do a certain affairs there are two ways:
1.Do this or stay awa from this. This could have the effect of disciplining the child on that. There is a more effective method:
2.That you mention the evidence along with the action. That you mention the prophet, peace be upon him said or Allah said
