THE LOVED UNSEEN

I thought within my wandering heart what love beyond compare
Could cause a smile to dance across the lips of martyrs then.
How could a man with joy and song gladly embrace the flames
and blend his blood with songs of praise in offering gone with flames

Silhouetted though but clear above the murmur of self will
So deep within this heart of me a still small voice I hear:
“Because”, He says, “beyond a tale, I live within their hearts”
“My love is found entrenched in them a bond of perfectness”.

Being turned behold, my heart beholds my loving saviour here
“I’ve never seen you, Lord”, I cried but this love burns within
Then as I look the glorious Lord with hands and side as pierced
I feel the flame of love within His heart is here in mine

For all the years I’ve thumbed the page’ of love letters from You
They tell the tale of how for sin the Just made sin was slain
No, not the nails but boundless love held him unto the cross
Till God bled white to wash me white in bloody fount of love

But now I see the Loved Unseen and testify of this
That not a half of it was told of what I now behold
The living Lord of Life now dwells within my heart with love
The love beyond the veil of death brings life that knows no end

What peace and joy, what grace and truth, what glory to reveal!
Are brought to us by this great love that men can’t comprehend
So friend I tell of Christ the Lord the Living Loved Unseen
To you my friend that you might feel the flame of love unfeigned
