Sage Valmiki inquired Sri Naarada muni, who is always engaged deeply in austerity and study of Vedas and who is the best among the eloquent and eminent among sages, as follows:

konvasmin sāṃpratam loke
guṇavān kashca vīryavān |
dharmajñashca kṛtajñashca
satya vākyo dhṛḍha vrataḥ

Who really is that person in this present world, who has auspicious qualities and is strong, who knows Dharma, one who is mindful of good deeds done to him, a speaker of truth and who is determined in his activities?

cāritreṇa ca ko yuktaḥ
sarva bhūteṣu ko hitaḥ |
vidvān kaḥ kaḥ samarthashca
kashcaika priya darśanaḥ 

Who is that person, who is appropriate in disposition, who is interested in the welfare of all beings, who is knowledgeable, capable, and also uniquely pleasant to look at?

ātmavān ko jita krodho
dyutimān konasūyakaḥ |
kasya bibhyati devāḥshca
jāta roṣasya saṃyuge |

Who is that self-composed one, who has conquered his anger, who is brilliant, non-envious and whom even the demigods fear, when provoked to war?

etad icchāmyaham śrotum
param kautūhalam hi me |
maharṣe tvam samarth'osi
jñātum evam vidham naram 

All this I wish to listen from you, oh! Great Sage, you are competent to know this kind of person, and indeed my inquisitiveness is immense..."
