But as John Kerry's commander in Vietnam Tom, a lieutenant at the time, was a Swift Boat...2362cleanfullBill EdwardsAt first glance you might not realize that a quiet unassuming man like Commander Tom Wright, USN (ret.) has a backbone of titanium and a true American hero. But as John Kerry's commander in Vietnam Tom, a lieutenant at the time, was a Swift Boat captain. He soon realized that Kerry was the proverbial "loose cannon" who could not follow orders and reckless in his actions to include The Sampan Incident. Wright went to his commanders requesting Kerry be reassigned and they took his advice. When Kerry wanted to use his Vietnam experience as part of his qualifications for our highest office, Tom and many of his colleagues had to speak up and speak out. They formed Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and were advisors to author Joseph Corsi on the book Unfit for Command which helped keep Kerry out of the Oval Office (thank God). But the left-wing media soon targeted Wright and his group as un-American and were simply jealous of Kerry's "heroics" in Vietnam. Even though Kerry was in theater for a mere four months he somehow managed to win three Purple Hearts (without spending a day in the hospital--remarkable in itself), a Bronze Star and a Silver Star. Yet to date we have not been able to access Kerry's Naval records. But Tom Wright and the other Swift Boat Veterans for Truth did not and would not back down. On the 29th of August 2004 during the presidential campaign, Tom agreed to come on our morning radio show with then co-host Brian Mudd and me to tell it like it really was when he had Kerry in his command.
