His latest writ of Habeas Corpus was denied in December of 2020. And at the time of the original recording - June 01, 2021...Juan Kinley was on a list of Pending Cases for the Southern District of Ohio. His case is in a state of abeyance...or temporarily on hold until matters are resolved.
So, Juan Kinley is still sitting on death row and being housed at Chillicothe Correctional Institution. He has one more chance to plead his case to the parole board. But what about the victim’s family? How do they feel about this?
In this special episode of Ohio 88, I sit down with Thelma’s niece and David’s cousin; Gracie. She describes exactly what this journey has been like for her entire family…but especially her father; Thelma’s brother. In speaking with Gracie, she told me how Thelma and David were, as people…not just as victims. She let me in on the emotions that she and her family have had to deal with over the last 30 years. And finally, she let me know what Thelma would have wanted others to know about her case and her decisions. As a quick summary; John Herbert Dillinger was born on June 22, 1903 and died on July 22, 1934. He was an American gangster of the Great Depression and led a group known as the “Dillinger Gang”.

Known as public enemy number 1; Dillinger was accused of robbing 24 banks and 4 police stations. He was imprisoned a number of times and escaped on two different occasions. Although he had this reputation of being such an outlaw, he wasn’t a cold-blooded killer; as most would suspect. In fact, he was only charged with one homicide but was not convicted. This homicide, however, was that of a police officer in East Chicago, Indiana; during a shootout.

June 29, 2021 marked 20 years since Patti Adkins clocked out from her second-shift job at the Honda plant in Marysville and vanished.

Adkins was a single mother who had been working at the Honda Plant for 10 years. She worked her way up the chain and became a supervisor on the assembly line. She was a hard worker and her family thought she needed some time for herself. So, when she decided to use "shutdown" week as a time to go on a vacation with her boyfriend, they were excited for her.

She had left her young daughter with her ex (whom she had shared parenting with) but her ex was to take her daughter to her aunt (Adkins' sister) toward the end of the week. That is where Patti was to pick her up from on July 8. But that didn't happen. When Adkins failed to pick her daughter up on July 8 as planned, a missing persons report was filed.

Patricia Adkins has not been seen since June 29, 2001.
Detectives have chased leads for two decades and had once pinned hopes that new technology would yield results from a speck of blood that was recovered from a tonneau cover. But that never materialized.

A Union County judge declared Adkins dead in 2006. However, her family and friends still need answers.

Detectives arrested him the next week, but his 2006 escape from prison earned him a spot on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list. Parsons eluded authorities for 83 days before being captured in Chillicothe. He is now serving a sentence of life in prison.

Since being convicted and sentenced, Juan has been fighting to get off of death row. His latest writ of Habeas Corpus was denied in December of 2020. And at the time of this recording - June 01, 2021...Juan Kinley was on a list of Pending Cases for the Southern District of Ohio.
His case is in a state of abeyance...or temporarily on hold until matters are resolved.

So, Juan Kinley is still sitting on death row and being housed at Chillicothe Correctional Institution.

As a quick summary; Juan Kinley murdered his 31-year-old girlfriend and her 12-year-old son with a machete on Jan. 10, 1989. Kinley remains on Ohio's death row following his 1991 conviction.

17-year-old Paige Johnson was last seen on September 23, 2010. She had just turned 17 and was headed to her sister’s apartment. According to her mother, Donna, it sounded as if Paige said “Jason” was picking her up...when in fact, what she actually said was that “Jacob” was picking her up. Her mother knew Jason and knew that she would be safe with him...so she said okay and told her to be safe and have fun. However, the person she was actually leaving with was a 22-year-old by the name of Jacob Bumpass.
Jacob Bumpass, to this day, doesn’t talk about that night. What he HAS said though, is where he dropped her off that night. He claimed that he dropped her off at 15th and Scott Street in Covington, Kentucky at around 1am. However, the authorities have indicated that his cell phone never pinged off of towers in that area. His phone DID ping at East Fork Lake (in Clermont County, Ohio) between at about 4:18am when he sent a text message from his phone. He is the very last person known to have seen Paige alive.
As of March 22, 2020; Paige's remains have been identified. Can you guess where? About 1-2 miles from where Bumpass' phone pinged near East Fork State Park. Her cause of death is still under investigation.

I know we have all seen the interviews and read the headlines regarding Charles Manson’s behavior in the courtroom...but I want to tell you a bit more about that in this part of the episode. I want to describe to you, the shenanigans that occurred within the courtroom. I also want to go through a recapped timeline of events and the closing arguments in the trial. Lastly, I want to end the episode with the aftermath of Charles Manson’s life of crimes. When and where did he die? Where did his co-defendants end up? What are they up to? What he HAS said though, is where he dropped her off that night. He claimed that he dropped her off at 15th and Scott Street in Covington, Kentucky at around 1am. However, the authorities have indicated that his cell phone never pinged off of towers in that area. His phone DID ping at East Fork Lake (in Clermont County, Ohio) between at about 4:18am when he sent a text message from his phone. He is the very last person known to have seen Paige alive.
As of March 22, 2020; Paige's remains have been identified. Can you guess where? About 1-2 miles from where Bumpass' phone pinged near East Fork State Park. Her cause of death is still under investigation.

She had just turned 17 and was headed to her sister’s apartment. According to her mother, Donna, it sounded as if Paige said “Jason” was picking her up...when in fact, what she actually...Jacob Bumpass, to this day, doesn’t talk about that night. What he HAS said though, is where he dropped her off that night. He claimed that he dropped her off at 15th and Scott Street in Covington, Kentucky at around 1am. However, the authorities have indicated that his cell phone never pinged off of towers in that area. His phone DID ping at East Fork Lake (in Clermont County, Ohio) between at about 4:18am when he sent a text message from his phone. He is the very last person known to have seen Paige alive.
As of March 22, 2020; Paige's remains have been identified. Can you guess where? About 1-2 miles from where Bumpass' phone pinged near East Fork State Park. Her cause of death is still under investigation.

Officer Grant was flown to a local hospital, and sadly, did not survive. The sergeant suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was released. Police indicated that the suspect, 42-year-old Terry Blankenship, was taken into custody.
The incident is still being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

On October 3, 2016, a gun went off and a 911 call was made. Responding officers find DJ shot in the face. He’s deceased. Witnesses claim someone else in the home - a one-time romantic interest of his wife Brandy’s - shot and killed DJ. Some say accidentally, some say intentionally.
Members of DJ’s family can’t believe that DJ would kill himself, and some sheriff’s detectives don’t buy the suicide. But the state’s crime lab and a medical examiner disagree. And so nobody has ever been charged with the death of Donald Edward Fickey, Jr.
Since we released the case on Status: Pending, Amanda (DJ's sister) has been tirelessly working to ensure that the GBI looks into her brother's case. She has reached out to tons of podcasters as well as YouTubers and even folks with the Investigation Discovery Channel to share her brother's story.
