But while the premise is cool and Jason’s undead look is incredible, they also have to admit the film's a mixed bag with its uneven pacing. Still, it makes for a crazy, fun ride and a great conversation about what works and what doesn't in this strange yet entertaining entry.

We also saw the movie before the Jonathan Majors absue scandal surfaced so we didn't get to talk about that in the context of the movie. Grudge Match is a weird drunken idea that got made into a movie. Literally some dudes were sitting around talking about if Raging Bull or Rocky would win in a match as old dudes. Then they put some weird 2013 puppet CGI faces in there..and you've got yourself a movie. Great underutilized cast. A general disappointment. But it was not a uniform experience. Aleks enjoyed this movie much more than Milenko did. Which always makes for an interesting and compelling dynamic in the conversation.

Michael Caine is a POW soccer trainer in this one. He is propositioned by a nazi football aficionado Max Von Sydow to prep the POWs for a game with ze Germans. The allies begin to mount a daring escape ahead of the big game involving Stallone escaping and being recaptured. In the end they leave it all out on the field and symbolically win the war. The gang was regaled by the appearance of real life soccer players including the amazing Pele who gives a beautiful airborne goal at the end of the movie. Join us for this weird gem!

EP136 - Rambo

Rambo is the fourth instalment in the franchise. Stallone tried to "direct this movie from the perspective of Rambo". When you take that into consideration the movie takes on new dimensions and becomes a compelling exploration of the psyche of a deeply traumatized and solitary ex vet. However unfortunately Stallone's deeply rooted racism is also on full display in his direction and characterization. The bros discuss this and more on this week's episode. We find Rambo now an elder/peaceful snake wrangler in Thailand and he gets asked by a group of silly American missionaries to take them to Burma. Of course like it does in all the other movies things start going haywire, but in an interesting way this time because the world view represented by Stallone's choices is very nihilistic and troubling. It is a true sequel to the psychological aspect of the first film only much bleaker.

EP135 - Rocky Balboa

Rocky Balboa. This is the 6th Rocky movie. We find our hero living a humbled, but fulfilled life, Sure he is sad that Adrian has passed away, he has a strained relationship with his son who is living in his shadow and his brother in law is still an emotional parasite. But he has a restaurant, he gets approved to fight again despite vague bureaucracy and he even forms a new but platonic romantic attachment that comes with a readymade family. This movie had some good Rocky elements. It had rambling Stallone. It had speeches Stallone. It had grand standing Stallone and it even had feats of strength Stallone. The problem however was the writing. It didn't have the fearlessness to follow through on some of the more interesting plot points and is ultimately a disappointing sequel despite being heralded as an impressive comeback. The problem with the movie is that it could handle the stakes. They were just too high to be realistic and thus non of the plot points feel like they matter. It's difficult to make Rock the underdog at this point despite continuously trying. The 5th film did a much better job at telling the story the 6th movie wanted to tell. This may be an unpopular opinion as this movie does have a cult following, but we are not afraid to defend this unpopular opinion and you must listen to the episode to hear why!

EP134 - Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over

Spy Kids is a beloved franchise that the brothers were right on the cusp of being the target group for. Aleks is a fan whereas Milenko was a little too old for it when it came out. The 3rd instalment is not without its fun and charm, but seems to be relying too much on the glory and success of the franchise. With some fun cameo appearances and of course a powerhouse Stallone performance!

EP133 - Blade 2 (Bonus EP)

The plot is relatively simple, but gives us the same exciting vampire intrigue we got in the first film with much higher stakes (pun intended). Aleks does not join in this episode. We also get a bit of a reset in this movie because we find out that Whistler is actually alive and Blade has to save him from becoming a vampire.

EP132 - The Last Of The Mohicans

Last of the Mohicans is a classic movie. Daniel Day Lewis, Madeline Stowe, Wes Studi and Russel Means all give iconic performances along with a stellar cast, score and direction. A 1992 epic romantic drama set against the backdrop of colonial America in the 1700's with Britain and France warring in what is now known as upstate NY. As you can probably imagine it has a lot of problematic elements given the subject matter of the film and the fact that it was made in the 90s. However it is really compellingly shot and has a great deal of emotional resonance with the development of the characters and an iconic score with an excellent theme that follows the story throughout. Notably absent from the show is host and brother: Aleks who is on vacation. Instead the episode features: Milenko, Leila and Ana. Enjoy!

EP130 - Samaritan (SPOILERS)

The freshest cut of Stallone: Samaritan. The back story of this comic book style adventure is that there were once twin brothers with superpowers living in Granite City. The townsfolk feared their power and tried to kill them but ended up only killing their parents. One brother, Nemesis, swore revenge while the other brother, Samaritan, swore to protect folks. Eventually they fight an epic battle while Nemesis tries to destroy the city and Samaritan tries to protect and they presumably both parish in a fire. Fast forward 20 years later. Granite City is overcome with poverty and is in need of a hero. There's a kid who loves Samaritan who begins flirting with gang activity in order to help his single mum make ends meet. It's a great set up. The brothers spoil the whole movie so be warned! Join the bros as they excitedly relish in this new Pantheon classic.

EP129 - Avenging Angelo

Driven is a sports movie. A car movie. A Renny Harlan movie. It features an aged Stallone struggling with how to stay relevant in a rapidly changing world. The movie seems to simultaneously want to give some young up and coming actors a shot while also maintaining that Sly is the main guy and not too old to be the best. Ultimately falling short of actually being a good movie. But it is a fun ride and a hilarious episode! Listen as we discuss Til Schweiger!

The problem is it just wants to be a repeat of Demolition Man, but doesn't quite live up to that or the source material of the comics. The brothers end up really enjoying the memories brought up by the movie.

The cast is totally stellar. Directed by Marko Brambillia, an interesting conceptual artist and futurist, this movie holds up in interesting ways and allows us to examine the way that these decades old American culture wars have played out to present day 2022. Plus this movie is totally Pantheon so the brothers are really delightfully giddy to discuss this one. Enjoy!

The gang all thoroughly enjoyed this maligned would be classic. Rocky V has a Creed kind of vibe. They lean into the drama of the story telling. The movie reads as a melodrama and ends up doing so much to push the Rocky narrative forward. This movie sees a down on his luck Rocky who has lost it all and must come to terms with his new life. He finds some solace and purpose in mentoring a young fighter while jeopardizing his relationship with his son in the process. It's a touching movie and dare we sad a hidden gem.

Rocky II picks up right where the first Rocky left off. Anything that is lost in the calculated money making decision to create a franchise based on this beloved underdog is made up for by the competent direction and storytelling of Stallone. The stakes are interestingly raised because in the first film Rocky and it was about his hunger to prove himself. This film hits us with an economic reality where Rocky has a taste of the money he could be making and in true American underdog fashion wants to transcend his class. What ultimately makes the sequelization of this series work is Stallone's dedication to and intimate understanding of this iconic character. Interesting movie. Even though Kays was supposed to guest on all of the Rocky episodes he wasn't able to make it this episode so we had an impromptu guest replacement with T4M official 3rd host Leila

Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a mess. Everyone knows it. The CGI is weird, the anthropomorphic animals are off putting and we have the inter-dimensional beings fiasco. However this movie does a lot of things right: the casting, performances and stunts are all great. This more modern iteration goes to great lengths to maintain the integrity of the character of Indy and it is successful, but somewhat haphazardly so. This episode is actually incredible. We have the triumphant return of 3rd host Leila! Who is back to provide some biting critiques, sober observations and hilarious commentary. Strap in for this one because it is a wild ride and much less disappointing than the actual movie.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is the most racist Indy film. By far. So much so that it was banned in India when it was released. And rightfully so. But it has some classic beloved characters in the trio of Indy, Shortround and Willie. There are some redeeming qualities as this movie is well directed and fun. It plays out almost like a video game with non-stop action and fun. But it is extremely racist and colonially fetishistic. Almost outrageously so. Enjoy hearing the brothers pan and scan this movie.

The last official episode of the Alien franchise mini dive! And what a note to end on! AvP: Requiem is a weird mid 2000s Alien and Predator movie masquerading as teen horror thriller/disaster movie. It's sort of like if someone tried to mash up Riverdale/Scream/Armageddon and then just put Aliens and Predators. The movie answers a bunch of questions that no one asked such as: What would happen if a Predator/Alien hybrid forcibly impregnated people at the maternity ward with triplet aliens that bust out of a preggo belly? Another question that is answered is: What would happen if we just callously got a small vulnerable child facehugged? For no reason. Anyway the gang has a lot of fun eye-rolling to this movie while providing a veritable cornucopia of fresh references and drops in this ultimately disappointing campy sequel! Enjoy!!

In many ways Prometheus is the perfect movie to hate because it encapsulates just how spectacular a failure can be. You can have a brilliant well directed piece of shit especially if you trust Damon Lidelof to write your script! This movie is profoundly shitty. But one must not gloss over the profundity of its shittiness. It is a brilliant exemplification of that tired cliche: so bad it's good. Except with Prometheus it's actually so bad: it's legendary. This conversation about this movie makes for the greatest almost standalone episode of the series! Brilliant talk! Jolly good fun! Enjoy!

EP90 - Alien Resurrection

Alien Resurrection is a movie that needs to justify its own existence to its audience especially on the heels of Ripley's ultimate sacrifice. But what better way to continue our heroine's story than to lean into the Christ metaphor and resurrect her with late 90s-era cloning hysteria? Jean Pierre Jeunet earns his audience trust in this film by striking a decidedly goofier tone in this bizarre/grotesque romp that ends up demystifying the alien while honouring the Ripley narrative in a surprisingly satisfying way. Once again we get a stellar ensemble of misfits and some very impersonate-able moments that will leave you thirsty for more. Aleks wears the dunce cap in this ep for losing his audio and causing the gang to rerecord the episode and then having crunchy audio in his re-recording, but he makes up for it by yelling a lot. The gang gives Ripley a fitting send off as they finally complete the Quadrilogy including an emotional tribute from Leila at the end of the episode. You don't want to miss this one!

The final episode of the Jean Pod Van Damme season of the show. The film the brothers chosen for the last episode of the season is The Bouncer. A gritty low budget Euro art film take on the classic Van Damme style plot of 'saving a loved one" This film roots that story in the reality of a working class single father with a sordid past. Van Damme is very stoic Van Damme in this movie. He is kind of intense but very calm and collected. The main crime boss, Jan calls Van Damme a survivor in this movie and honestly that's the perfect way to describe him both on and off screen. An excellent and emotional ending to a fantastic JCVD season!

In this somewhat off beat action comedy Van Damme gets to show a lot of range as the meek Filip, as the badass Van Johnson and as the vulnerable Van Varenberg. Another meta outing for Van Damme that avoids getting stale by really committing to the meta self-parody to the point of sincerity. A very strange an interesting show with a great support cast. Not an episode to miss for fans of JCVD.

One night after a failed attempt to download the remake and record the episode of the show the brothers decide to do a walk and talk preamble where they discuss their expectations for the movie. They have a loose conversation about the institution of remakes in general, comparing biopics to remakes and talking about the merits of a remake with a visionary director vs someone who doesn't have the fire! The brothers have a strikingly opinions about this soft reboot and it plays out over an endearing conversation before and after having seen the movie. Stay for the hilarious jokes.

EP80 - Dragon Eyes

Dragon Eyes is a little disappointing after the massive performance of our previous film: JCVD but the show must go on! Milenko is really disappointed out of the gate with this movie however Aleks ends up bringing him back around. There's a lot to get excited about this John Hyams feature: Peter Weller gives a strange gonzo performance. JCVD gets "and" credit status! And we get a slew of amazing MMA fighter performances not the least of which is the breakout role of Cung Le! Who does a fantastic job in his first role.

When you all heard that we'd be doing a Van Damme season this was undoubtedly the top movie on your minds. JCVD (2008) is the movie that turned Van Damme into: JCVD... Truly bringing him into the 21st century by giving him an enviable renaissance and a chance to flex his acting biceps. Director Mabrouk el Mechri does a masterful job in capturing the essence of what has made JCVD a lasting global phenomenon and why he has enjoyed a sustained cross-cultural appeal as opposed to some of his other contemporaries. This film has become a model for a perfect gritty indie comeback. Perspective shifting all over the place while playing fast and loose with the fourth wall and an uninterrupted 6 min career defining monologue that could have been its own award winning short film. To quote the Times: Don't give him a blackbelt! Give him an Oscar! The brothers wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. One of the best podcast episodes we've ever done! Big film! JCVD.

EP78 - In Hell

Is the hell that the title speaks of: a world in which we are all sentenced to a predetermined prison of violence and patriarchy at the hands of many others and sometimes even ourselves included? Milenko seems to think this is the case. Listen as Milenko makes the case for his thesis to a more skeptical Aleks. Listen to the bros dissect veteran JCVD director Ringo Lam's final film with the actor. Classic prison movie set up with many familiar (and sometimes unfortunate) tropes. However this film is able to transcend some tropes as it reaches for greatness ultimately failing, but making a valiant effort. A more heady ep from the bros. Enjoy!

How could it go wrong? Well it does my friends. This film is so bad in fact that it takes the mantle for worst film ever reviewed by this podcast. However the brothers manage to make a short and sweet entertaining romp reviewing this garbage. The brothers marvel at the few redeeming qualities of this film like the great performance by Sofia Milos. It's pretty shit otherwise. Enjoy the ep!

Despite this being a Jean Claude podcast this movie is memorable for being a Michael Rooker vehicle. Michael Rooker of course being a celebrated cult movie actor that the brothers thoroughly enjoy and a guy that Aleks does an impeccable impression of. Fast forward through the first 10 mins of Alex Jones impressions and casual musings on the damaging effects of right wing media. How is Alex Jones similar to Corey Taylor from Slipknot? Listen to find out. Back to the movie tho... Ringo Lam's pseudo-scfi action romp doesn't live up to the legendary status of Maximum Risk, but tests the range limitations of its wonderful cast. An extremely watchable highly kinetic film that the brothers loved. Not an episode to miss!

EP75 - Inferno

After a brief pause on the JCVD season the bros are back with Inferno (1999). They take the show on another walking ASMR adventure. Join them in the suburbs of southern Ontario as the snow gentle crunches beneath their feet while they discuss this decidedly low budget but interesting film. Rocky director: John G. Avildsen's last feature film. He was reportedly so dismayed by this movie that he asked for an Alan Smithee credit but was ultimately rejected. Inferno is an exercise in semiotics: the good the bad and the ugly. (In this case the ugly being the movie's horrendous racism). A strange late century take on a Western, or maybe more accurately a Southern. We see some familiar T4M faces show up in this one: including Danny Trejo and a surprise Home Alone alum sure to excite the most devoted of our fans.

As many of you have undoubtedly heard just last week there was a failed attempt at an insurrection by white supremacists at the Capitol in the United States. This call to arms was led by outgoing US president and disgrace of a human being Donald Trump who has spent the last four years reinventing the notion of what a piece of shit is. Famed Republican (lite) and our childhood hero Arnold Schwarzenegger (Schwartzy) decided to weigh in on the issue releasing a well produced and compelling rebuke that harkens back to a "simpler" time when deep partisanship could be put away in the service of a common good. The video's message, like Schwartzy himself, comes off as fairly idealistic and naive, but provokes a stimulating conversation that ranges from American politics to attempts at deeper sociological themes with the brothers. And allows them to get more political within the framework of the show's theme!

The brothers talk more about the way class is represented in this movie through the contrasts of the excesses of the plaza hotel juxtaposed against the poverty stricken pigeon lady. Also she looks like Susan Boyle and Piers Morgan. Revisit your fav dysfunctional family and see the logical conclusion of being consistently neglected as a child! Kevin goes full on antagonistic socio in this film and it's rather interesting. Plus Tim Curry is an absolutely delightful performer. For what this film lacks in spirit it makes up for in decent oneliners and some pretty fun gags! Definitely still Pantheon! Definitely still classic childhood. Just not as good as the first despite what some people try to tell you. Hear the bros make that case in this fucking hilarious episode. Seriously funny ep. Don't miss it! EP68 - Legionnaire

The brothers had no idea that Legionnaire (1998) would be the war time epic melodrama that both of them needed. This subtle slow burn masterpiece was directed Peter MacDonald one of the first directors to really trust Van Damme's acting abilities. It is a thoughtful exploration of various intersections of masculinity and addresses the nuances of the toxicity within all on the back drop of the devastation of imperialism and war. Very thought provoking film. With some amazing casting and great performances. The brothers cannot speak of it highly enough!

EP66 - Double Team

EP63 - Sudden Death

Sudden Death sees the second pairing of JCVD with director Peter Hyams! An action packed romp seeing nice guy down on his luck fireman dad JCVD trying to redeem himself in the eyes of his kids. He takes them to the final game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs but is caught in the middle of some political intrigue he hadn't anticipated. With an unbelievable villainous performance the enigmatic Powers Booth, Sudden Death goes into overtime with some interesting nuanced power dynamics. A fun romp! This movie is definitely JCVD's Die Hard. This week the brothers are joined by Toronto performance artist Dylan Berry. List as they rejoice at the excellent performances and nonstop action of this gem in the Van Damme Pantheon.

The brothers find a lot of joy in revisiting this over the top, campy feature finding a great deal redeeming qualities in it and even managing to coin a new phrase: #post-apocalyptic-empathy.
