As an author, Kelly is interested in creating works where Autistic characters are allowed to be what most people are: neither geniuses nor dependent on others—in other words, dare I say it, typical. As an educator, she is interested in combining lived experiences with "capital T theories" to provide students with components to construct their own unique "toolkit" to translate the knowledge they have gained from their experiences—"cultural capital" according to Professor Tara J. Yosso—into any world, whether that be a dedicated knowledge community, a career field, a friend group, or anything in between, they want to explore.
