Their parents left the Philippines to start a better life for themselves and their families. Like many Asian families, Filipino culture focuses on stability and many pursue “proven paths” like medicine, engineering, and the military. Growing up in America, they were taught to value the freedom of speech and thought. This is in direct contrast to the Asian culture where parental expectations create conflict because career goals and definitions of success are not aligned. Rose and Jennifer are just two examples of first-generation children learning what it means to be successful in the U.S. and how to navigate through it. They aim to bridge the gap of knowledge, experience, and support that many have felt coming of age, beginning careers and living life within purpose. <br /><br />Rose and Jennifer embarked on the In Her Purpose project to advocate for women, to feed and fuel the future generation, and to spread love! This is in direct contrast to the Asian culture where parental expectations create conflict because career goals and definitions of success are not aligned. Rose and Jennifer are just two examples of first-generation children learning what it means to be successful in the U.S. and how to navigate through it.
