I have a vivid memory of Obba Babatunde, if I'm not mistaken, playing a producer in a really good show back in the 80s, long before I saw him portray Berry Gordy. Unfortunately, I can't even recall the name of the show. I think it only aired one or two episodes—at least, that's all I saw before it vanished from the screen. That really bummed me out because I was excited to see more stories from it. I remember Obba's character asking someone to build him a studio, but the guy seemed to be doing everything but that.

There was also a jealous singer in the show who reminded me of Cindy Herron from En Vogue. I can't say for sure if she was the one singing back then, but she sure looked like her.
Then, there was a girl who played a lovely song called "Dream Inside Me." And when she played the piano, that jealous girl stepped in to take over the performance. I really liked that song.

One of the standout moments for me was a funny scene where a guy danced around singing "A-Tisket, A-Tasket" with a lady. Honestly, that's about all I clearly remember, and it feels like ages ago. This show was a rare Black musical that the networks seem to have tried to make everyone forget. These days, no one ever mentions it, and that makes me sad. I would love to see that show again.

Jeremiah, a prophet warning of doom, was imprisoned by fearful officials who believed his messages weakened morale. They condemned him to a slow death in a muddy cistern. However, Ebedmelech , often overlooked because of his background, took a stand for justice. Learning of Jeremiah's terrible fate, he approached King Zedekiah and pleaded for the prophet's life.

In a surprising turn, the king allowed Ebedmelech to rescue Jeremiah. Armed with rope and cloth, Ebedmelech ascended into the cistern and successfully pulled life from the jaws of death. His bravery not only saved Jeremiah but also showcased the power of compassion in dire times.

Kem Lamont Owens, known simply as Kem, was born on July 23, 1967, in Nashville, Tennessee. When he was just 5 years old, he moved to the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, where he grew up in Pontiac and Southfield.

Kem worked hard to launch his music career. He decided to make his first album, called "Kemistry," by using his own money from his American Express card and performing cover songs at weddings. His dedication paid off when he caught the attention of Motown Records, which signed him in November 2001. They re-released "Kemistry" in 2003, and it became quite successful, selling over 500,000 copies and earning a Gold certification from the RIAA. The main single from the album was "Love Calls."

His second album, "Album II," came out in May 2005 and was also a hit, achieving Platinum status. It featured a popular single called "I Can't Stop Loving You," which topped urban adult contemporary radio. The album also included a special track called "You Might Win," where the legendary Stevie Wonder played harmonica.

Kem released his third album, "Intimacy: Album III," in August 2010. He continued to collaborate with other artists and had a notable appearance on a song called "My Favorite Thing" with Ronald Isley in 2013.

His fourth studio album, titled "Promise to Love," came out on August 25, 2014. Kem performed the Grammy-nominated song "Nobody" from this album on the popular talk show hosted by Steve Harvey, where he also sang the show's theme song during its fourth season.

On August 28, 2020, Kem released his fifth album, "Love Always Wins," which includes singles like "Lie To Me" and "Live Out Your Love," featuring the talented Toni Braxton. Throughout his career, Kem has continued to touch hearts with his soulful music and powerful performances.

With great care, Dorsalee took a grand light purple tam, fashioned by her sister’s hands, and turned it inside out. She adorned it with feathers, creating a masterpiece that shimmered like silk on one side and bore soft cotton and intricate designs on the other. This magnificent tam had a drawstring below and was paired with a delicate scarf of the same hue.

Though Dorsalee’s taste in clothing was unique, she lovingly completed the dream left unfinished by her sister. In every piece she created, she wove a thread of her sister's spirit, blending it with her own vision.

Both sisters cherished the color light purple, a symbol of their creativity, imagination, feminine essence, and the sacred bond they shared with God. Though separated by the veil of life and death, Dorsalee felt her sister’s presence ever close. In moments of despair, she would hear her sister’s gentle voice guiding her. You know, you turn on the TV sometimes, and there he is, Bernie Mac. Big grin, that gravelly voice, talking straight to the camera, giving you the business. You almost forget. He's right there, full of life, full of… attitude.

And then you remember. He's gone.

Funny thing is, he was just hitting his stride, wasn’t he? He did it all. Janitor, bus driver, Wonder Bread man – you name it. Paid his dues, that's for sure. You gotta admire a guy who works that hard just to get to tell jokes on a stage. And he wasn't scared to tell the jokes. Def Comedy Jam, that was something else. Who else could walk out on that stage and tell a crowd he ain't scared of 'em?

Then the "Bernie Mac Show." Smart show. It wasn't just another sitcom. It was real. It was funny, but it was real. Guy raising his sister’s kids, talking to the camera like we were all in on the joke. And it won awards. An Emmy, a Peabody. That's not just for making people laugh.
And then, just like that, he's talking about retiring. Enjoying life. Said he wanted to spend time with his family, missed a lot on the road. You think, "Good for him. He deserves it."

Sarcoidosis, they said. That's a nasty word, sarcoidosis. Another reminder that life ain't fair. You think a guy who worked that hard, made people laugh that much, would get a little more time.

And he was only 50! Fifty! You know how old 50 is? It's just getting started!
That's the thing about life, isn't it? You can have all the plans in the world, be right at the peak of your game, and then… *poof*. It's gone.

Makes you think. Makes you wonder. Makes you want to appreciate every single day. Especially the ones you get to spend laughing. And Bernie Mac, well, he gave a lot of people a lot of laughs. You can't take that away. Even if he's gone.

Stephan James was called by author Kelly L. Carter the new powerhouse about action and activism. I must agree. I must agree. He starred in the 2019 movie 21 Bridges with Chadwick Boseman. It was an action thriller film directed by Brian Kirk and written by Adam Mervis and Matthew Michael Carnahan, based on a story by Mervis.  After starring in a string of television series as a teenager, the Canadian actor rose to prominence upon winning a Canadian Screen Award for Best Actor for his role as track and field sprinter Jesse Owens in the 2016 film Race.In 

2018, he starred in Barry Jenkins' acclaimed drama film If Beale Street Could Talk, based on the James Baldwin novel of the same name. Also that year, he portrayed Walter Cruz in the Amazon series Homecoming, for which he received a Golden Globe Award nomination.

Stephan James reminds me of Chadwick Boseman. Often I think of Chadwick Boseman and how great he was in acting. It hurt that he had to leave us. I wanted to see him do more movies for the comicbook hero Black Panther. I know that it’s hard to let Chadwick go. He left his mark on the character, but we no longer have him to play the characters. 

The movie is becoming just like what happened in the comic books. Several characters have taken on the mantle of Black Panther. It’s too soon for that in my opinion. We only got to see the character once in movies. The Black Panther character needs a chance to grow in the movies. 

There are probably various storylines like there are a number of characters for the Black Panther. We need to continue to see the Black Panther.

Stephan James could play the role of the Black Panther. Like Chadwick, he has remarkable acting charisma that captivates audiences. He could also bring strength, dignity, and depth to the character. He has the ability to convey emotion.

On the surface Chris and Christy Cross were just your average suburban couple. But when they sprang into action, Chris could take virtually any shape (such as a plane, a robot, a rubber ball, a perfect double of a villain, etc.). Christy could, as her name implied, shrink to microscopic size. Frequently tagging along on their adventures was their little dog, Trouble. The duo was a new concept for superhero cartoons in that they were the first African-American man/woman duo, and that they did not change into superhero costumes when the need to use their powers came, or adopt a "secret identity", simply wearing ordinary clothes.
I see listed 11 episodes of the cartoon listed from 1978. Maybe somebody will make new episodes for the cartoon or maybe even a movie.

When I was growing up, I didn't think black Cowboys existed. I never saw them in history books in school, and in the television world of course, I saw the Long Ranger, Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronso, and John Wayne. There were some black westerns made in the 70s, but I never saw them in those days. What we did not know in the old days, we were probably looking at it dead in the face through great grandparents great, aunts, and uncles. If you were not told about the past family history, you walked around not knowing.

Black cowboys have been around for years. Originally the white Cowboys were called cowhands and the African-Americans were referred to as Cowboys.

There are still African-American Cowboys today. There's a professional rodeo cowboy who specializedcin bull riding. He was the 1982 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association World Champion bull rider. He is the first African-American cowboy to win a world championship and professional rodeo. He was included into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1996. His name is Charles Sampson. He retired in 1994, but he spent his retirement doing ads for companies like Wrangler Jeans and Timex.

If Aaliyah would have lived, she might would have been like Patrice Rushen who became not only an R&B singer, but composer, record producer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and music director. She has served as the film composer for numerous movies, television shows and documentaries. Like Patrice, I believe Aaliyah would have been multiple things too. She was already a singer, dancer, and actress.

Did you know Aaliyah could play the keyboard? She played the keyboard in Japan in concert. That means she had piano playing skills. That is something I never saw much from Aaliyah. We mostly saw her sing and dance.

James Brown was another singer that could play piano but we mostly saw him sing and dance. Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston were other music artist that had piano playing skills.

I believe Aaliyah would have eventually written & composed her own music. It’s possible she might would have wanted to produce and be in charge of her own self.

When I saw Aaliyah playing the keyboard in Japan, she reminded me of Patrice Rushen.

Welcome to The Ebonliner Podcast. Today's topic is Prince (Partyman).

Partyman is a song by Prince from his 1989 Batman album and the follow up to his number one hit Batdance. I was blown away when I saw his music videos. He portrayed the Joker in both party man and the Batdance video. Prince acted out the jokers personality, and I think he would have been the perfect guy for the role in a movie. Watching him in the Partyman video and the Batdance video had me convinced that Prince could play as the Joker. Prince liked excitement and mystery, and he was that kind of performer. He was truly a man with a half painted face in the Partyman video and doing the Batdance in the other video, Batdance with a painted face as if he were saying: Batman! Eat your heart out! I'm having a ball!

Really, the character of Prince was called Gemini, half Batman and half the Joker. That was the purpose of the half painted face. The character was created by Prince.

Prince was a very talented guy. He would have made Batman a great supervillain as the Joker. Prince would have been great for the character. I could see the Joker’s crazy sense of humor when Prince acted him out in his music videos. The face of the Joker suited Prince, but at least we know through his music even though he did not leave us with a movie. Partyman and the Batdance were two music videos that you can watch as a short film. Prince left us with a great memory portraying the Joker doing the Batdance. He was the Partyman.

Watching him in the Partyman video and the Batdance video had me convinced that Prince could play as the Joker. Prince liked excitement and mystery, and he was that kind of performer. He was truly a man with a half painted face in the Partyman video and doing the Batdance in the other video, Batdance with a painted face as if he were saying: Batman! Eat your heart out! I'm having a ball!

Really, the character of Prince was called Gemini, half Batman and half the Joker. That was the purpose of the half painted face. The character was created by Prince.

Prince was a very talented guy. He would have made Batman a great supervillain as the Joker. Prince would have been great for the character. I could see the Joker’s crazy sense of humor when Prince acted him out in his music videos. The face of the Joker suited Prince, but at least we know through his music even though he did not leave us with a movie. Partyman and the Batdance were two music videos that you can watch as a short film. Prince left us with a great memory portraying the Joker doing the Batdance. He was the Partyman.

Along with his brother, Ronald Bell, he began playing jazz & in 1964 they formed a group named The Jazziacs. They began playing at clubs in New York City under a series of different band names before settling on the name "Kool & The Gang" in 1968. Their debut album, Kool and the Gang, was released the following year. Their first major hit came in 1973, with Jungle Boogie, which charted at number four on the Billboard Hot 100. Kristoff St. John is an actor best known for playing Neil Winters on the CBS daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless from 1991 until his death in 2019. Playing the role of Neil earned him two Daytime Emmy Award from eleven nominations, and ten NAACP Image Awards.


I use to follow Kristoff on Twitter. We chatted a little. Little did I know that he would pass away so soon. I'm glad that I followed him and was just getting to know more about him. It hurt to find out that he was gone.

Kristoff said he got to Young and the Restless when he was 24. He said it meant that he spent half of his life on the set of Young and the Restless. He was on the Young and the Restless for 25 years. Kristoff said he didn't know if he could do another 25 years of anything. He said in an interview what his gravestone would say. Kristoff talked as if he felt something was going to happen to him.

Following Kristoff St. John, I found out that he had a son. However, I couldn't see through his life on Twitter. I found out later that his son Julian died. I hardly knew Kristoff, and I wish that I had known more. Rest in peace Kristoff St. John.

Hi I'm Gail nobles. Did you know that the governor of Maryland was not only a politician but an investment banker, author television producer, and nonprofit executive serving as the 63rd of Maryland since 2023? His name is Wes Moore. A member of the democratic party, he is the first black governor of the state, the third black person elected as governor of any US state, and as of 2023, the only incumbent black governor of any US state.

Born in Maryland and raise largely in New York, Moore graduated from Johns Hopkins University and received a masters degree from Wolfson College, Oxford as a Rhodes scholar. After several years in the US Army and Army Reserve. Moore became an investment banker in New York between 2010 and 2015. Moore published five books including a young adult novel. He served as CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation from 2017 to 2021. Moore is the author of the other Wes Moore and The Work. He was also the host of Beyond Belief on the Oprah Winfrey Network as well as the executive producer and a writer for Coming Back with Wes Moore on PBS.

She is also the author of Pride, Nigeria Jones, Punching The Air, Black Enough, & My Life Is An Ice Cream Sandwich, a New York Times bestseller.

Her debut novel American Street, about a Haitian teen whose mother gets detained when they first immigrate to America, explores magical realism, immigration, and voodou culture, all based on the author's on experiences as a Haitian-American immigrant.

Zoboi edited the young adult anthology Black Enough: Stories of Being Young & Black in America, published in 2019 by Balzer + Bray. Black Enough received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and Booklist. It appeared on the 2020 Bank Street Children's Book Committee's Best Books of the Year List with an "Outstanding Merit" distinction.

Zoboi's 2018 novel Pride is a re-telling of Jane Austen's 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice, set in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York.

My Life as an Ice Cream Sandwich, Zoboi's 2019 middle-grade novel, is about Ebony-Grace, a girl who is sent from Alabama to help her grandfather in Harlem in the 1980s and is her first middle grade book. As a young black girl who enjoys the science-fiction worlds of Star Wars and Star Trek, Ebony-Grace is seen as an "ice cream sandwich" by her peers; brown on the outside, but white on the inside.

If Aaliyah would have lived today, she probably would have eventually had her own name brand sneaker. She might would have named it from her name with a twist like AALI’S for an example. Aaliyah might would have used her own logo or used a new logo design. She looked as if she had an executive mind.

I know Aaliyah is gone, but you can’t help but to remember her. I can see all that she could have done. Aaliyah was real special. She was more than an entertainer. She was young and eventually would have learned more about the business.

I never walked in Aaliyah’s shoes, but I believe she could have made some good ones.

Before Aaliyah left us, she talked about the dark side. That was probably her tough side wanting to come out. Maybe she held back sometimes because the business can be tough.

Aaliyah probably walked in her sneakers with no sign of pain. I never saw her struggle to stay strong. I never saw her complain. Privately, she walked in her shoes in a way that I will never know. What she did do was a step to success enough. She had beautiful sneakers. I never saw them worn out or rough.

Aaliyah might would have used her own logo or used a new logo design. She looked as if she had an executive mind.

I know Aaliyah is gone, but you can’t help but to remember her. I can see all that she could have done. Aaliyah was real special. She was more than an entertainer. She was young and eventually would have learned more about the business.

I never walked in Aaliyah’s shoes, but I believe she could have made some good ones.

Before Aaliyah left us, she talked about the dark side. That was probably her tough side wanting to come out. Maybe she held back sometimes because the business can be tough.

Aaliyah probably walked in her sneakers with no sign of pain. I never saw her struggle to stay strong. I never saw her complain. Privately, she walked in her shoes in a way that I will never know. What she did do was a step to success enough. She had beautiful sneakers. I never saw them worn out or rough.

She portrayed Sojourner truth reading “Ain’t I a Woman”. In the US Capital Visitor Center Emancipation Hall. Cicely Tyson is no longer with us, and I would love to see Kimberly Elise portray Sojourner truth in a biopic.

Kimberly is a strong actress, and she reminds me of Cicely Tyson. I would like to see more of her in at least one Black History film. I think Kimberly has strength in acting like Cicely portraying strong African American Women.

DJ Spinderella is best known as a member of the group Salt N Pepa. She was raised in Brooklyn, New York City and one of five children. Spinderella began her career as a DJ at age 14. She began dating a local DJ who she learned DJ techniques from. At age 16, she was asked by a classmate if she would be interested in joining an all female rap group. Spinderella was introduced to Salt N Pepa producer Hurby Luvbug.

It was exciting to see a female DJ with the female rap group. It was my first time seeing a female DJ although Spinderella might not have been the first. I remember hearing some guys in my hometown saying that they didn’t hear her scratch, but Spinderella did spin records in Salt N Pepa’s video Push It and the video Get Up. There was sometimes lots of music and drumbeat because Spinderella was more than a scratch sound. She produced several award winning songs for the group’s albums.

Spinderella was unique. You didn’t always hear a scratch but, you knew she was in the music. You knew she was in the mix, and she was beautiful. Spinderella had the right name for a DJ. I haven’t heard or seen another female DJ like her that rose to fame.

I don’t understand why filmmakers aren’t trying to grab Jeremy Smith. He could be our next Bernie Mac. He favors Bernie Mac. Even Bernie Mac thought so. Jeremy even sounds like Bernie Mac when he’s talking and telling his jokes.

I’m not a Bernie Mac Impersonator, and I can’t sound like Bernie Mac like Jeremy. But Jeremy would probably say, “Cause Everybody wasn’t born to act like Bernie Mac. I’m just gone tell it like it T-I is.”

You got to check Jeremy out and hear his voice. He said he could never be Bernie Mac. He could have fooled me.

Today’s topic is American Skin, a drama film written and directed by Nate Parker. It’s about a man named Lincoln Jefferson, a U.S. Marine veteran who works as a janitor at a prestigious junior high school, attempts to mend his relationship with his son after a divorce. One night, during a routine police traffic stop, the boy is shot and killed in front of Jefferson. After the officer is cleared of wrongdoing without having to face trial, Jefferson is forced to take matters into his own hands.

The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 1, 2019. It is scheduled to be released on January 15, 2021, by Vertical Entertainment. The film had some negative and positive reviews.

I think it will be a great film. What would you do if your son was killed by anyone? So far, from what I have seen, the film makes sense. A police officer cleared from wrongdoing after just shooting a man’s son with no weapon. It’s enough to make you want to take matters into your own hands. It was very shocking to me that Chadwick Boseman died. He played as the Marvel superhero, Black Panther. It really made me sad. There is question floating around on the Internet whether he should be replaced. Well, if there are fans that want to continue to see the Black Panther, we cannot hold on to Chadwick Boseman because he's gone. I don't know about some of you, but I would like to see more of the Black Panther. If you grew up reading Marvel Comics, you knew the character before you knew Chadwick Boseman. If Chadwick Boseman can't be replaced as the Black Panther, there'll be no more Black Panther movies.

Chadwick Boseman gave the movie it's first start. He did a great job in acting as the Black Panther. There are other great men out there somewhere that can play as The Panther too. Do you remember when Chadwick Boseman wasn't heard of? When he came to us, we loved his acting. There are others. Life must go on. If we don't give others a chance, don't you think it would help make things difficult? We wouldn't be able to continue. We would go on living in the past in grief over someone that is not here with us anymore. No, we shouldn't forget Chadwick Boseman. When Melle Mel was asked about how he felt about hip hop today in an interview he said, "I don't like it. I don't think black people should be represented by all that thug imagery because that's not really who we are. Nobody puts that in check."

Melle Mel doesn't like the nasty thug look, and he doesn't want to be represented by it. I have to agree with Melle Mel. I always say the same thing.

When I heard rap growing up, I don't remember seeing so much gang banging. People just had a great time together in music. They were very talented like Melle Mel. His talent and hard work made him number one. He did not have to go around acting ignorant to get somewhere. Mel did not have to prove that he was t he toughest guy on the street which had nothing to do with music. In rap music, Melle Mel had something to say, and people would listen. Listening to his words and music was more of a meaningful message to make you think or you were dancing.

Jimmie Allen is a Black American country singer. Mercury Lane is his debut album. It was released on Oct. 12, 2018. The album includes Allen's debut single "Best Shot" which made history as a 3 week No. 1 song. And he has a second single titled, "Make Me Want To" The album is named after the street on which Allen grew up. He wrote over half of the album's 15 tracks.

According to the online news, Jimmie Allen tweeted his feelings to BET for refusing to play his videos. Jimmie tweeted, "So BET stands for Black Entertainment Television, but yet, they won't play my music videos. Last time I checked, I was black. People worried about "Nashville" not letting black country artists in, but yet, BET won't let black country artists in. Nashville let me in".

The night that Mason Pryor was on Apollo, I wanted to hear his jokes all the way through. I wanted to get to know him as a comedian. When I saw Mason, I did not expect him to be exactly like his father, Richard Pryor. I believe that he had some stories to tell as well as jokes. Mason was telling some truth in his jokes, but the audience wanted to hear what was funny. Maybe he took a little too long to get to what was funny, and the audience wasn’t trying to hear him. So after Mason was booed, they called him back to the stage and gave him a second chance. The audience began to applaud after hearing him again.

Mason Pryor has his own way as a comedian. I believe he has a talent as a comedian that other comedians don’t have. You have to be patient and listen sometimes. That’s what Apollo has shown us by giving Mason a second chance. I believe that he has something new and different as a comedian.
