It all began when Aldo Mejias, a 56-year-old unlicensed physician, who lives near Coral Gables, was so afraid for Travis Dyson’s life that he was forced to call 911.

Gervonta Davis Arraignment Hearing Set For March 3 ---

The unbeaten former two-time 130-pound titlist and current secondary lightweight title claimant is due to appear in a Miami-Dade County courtroom on March 3, for an arraignment hearing stemming from his recent arrest following a domestic violence incident which took place in the greater Miami area during Super Bowl week. Davis was charged with one count of alleged Simple Battery Domestic Violence after a now-viral cell phone video taken captured the boxer forcibly grabbing Andretta “Dretta” Smothers, the mother of their daughter while the two were in attendance for a charity basketball game on Saturday, February 1.

The 25-year old southpaw boxer appeared in court, where he was formally notified of the charges and ordered to next appear in court on March 3. Additionally, he has been issued a Stay Away Order as part of a pre-trial condition prohibiting contact of any kind with the alleged victim.

Gervonta Davis Arraignment Hearing Set For March 3 ---

The unbeaten former two-time 130-pound titlist and current secondary lightweight title claimant is due to appear in a Miami-Dade County courtroom on March 3, for an arraignment hearing stemming from his recent arrest following a domestic violence incident which took place in the greater Miami area during Super Bowl week. Davis was charged with one count of alleged Simple Battery Domestic Violence after a now-viral cell phone video taken captured the boxer forcibly grabbing Andretta “Dretta” Smothers, the mother of their daughter while the two were in attendance for a charity basketball game on Saturday, February 1.

The 25-year old southpaw boxer appeared in court, where he was formally notified of the charges and ordered to next appear in court on March 3. Additionally, he has been issued a Stay Away Order as part of a pre-trial condition prohibiting contact of any kind with the alleged victim.

As 120 new potential jurors readied to enter the courtroom late Thursday morning, Judge James Burke told the court that prosecutor Joan Illuzzi is facing a "medical situation" and they will need to come back Friday. "Ms. Illuzzi has gone to a doctor’s appointment," Burke said, according to a media pool report. "That was, for the record, a sudden borderline emergency.” Illuzzi "got something in her eye in court and it was causing pain so she went to go see a doctor," said Danny Frost, a spokesman for the New York District Attorney's Office, in an email. "Pre-screening is down for the day, and today's panel will come back tomorrow." As proceedings began Thursday, Judge Burke denied a motion filed Wednesday afternoon by the defense asking that he recuse himself from the case.

USA TODAY--- Harvey Weinstein prosecutor has medical 'emergency,' gets 'something in her eye in court' --- .... the Harvey Weinstein sex-crimes trial enters its laborious third day of jury selection Thursday, the courtroom is rife with drama. As 120 new potential jurors readied to enter the courtroom late Thursday morning, Judge James Burke told the court that prosecutor Joan Illuzzi is facing a "medical situation" and they will need to come back Friday. "Ms. Illuzzi has gone to a doctor’s appointment," Burke said, according to a media pool report. "That was, for the record, a sudden borderline emergency.” Illuzzi "got something in her eye in court and it was causing pain so she went to go see a doctor," said Danny Frost, a spokesman for the New York District Attorney's Office, in an email. "Pre-screening is down for the day, and today's panel will come back tomorrow." As proceedings began Thursday, Judge Burke denied a motion filed Wednesday afternoon by the defense asking that he recuse himself from the case.

My Oprah? My OPRAH is a woman burdened with the responsibility to save a lot of BLK Americans who needed her to save them from themselves. AT AN EARLY AGE I LEARNED ... America has always trusted black women to do THEIR work, but it’s always come at the expense of their well-being. This notion goes all the way back to the days of slavery, when enslaved black women were forced to breast-feed their slave master’s babies with their own breast milk. Known as wet-nursing, this exploited the motherhood of black women while forcing them to disregard their own children.

Since then, black women have been at the forefront of social movements in America — dating back at least to Harriet Tubman’s leadership of the Underground Railroad, which helped tons of people escape from slavery.

The impulse to make the world neat and simple, with hard and fast guidelines, bumps up against the messiness of real life all the time.

ALSO --- The conk (derived from congolene, a hair straightener gel made from lye) was a hairstyle popular among African-American men from the 1920s to the 1960s. This hairstyle called for a man with naturally "kinky" hair to have it chemically straightened using a relaxer (sometimes the pure corrosive chemical lye) so that the newly straightened hair could be styled in specific ways. Often, the relaxer was made at home, by mixing lye, eggs, and potatoes, the applier having to wear gloves and the receiver's head has to be rinsed thoroughly after application to avoid chemical burns.

Conks were often styled as large pompadours although other men chose to simply slick their straightened hair back, allowing it to lie flat on their heads. Regardless of the styling, conks required a considerable amount of effort to maintain: a man often had to wear a do-rag of some sort at home, to absorb sweat or other agents to keep them from causing his hair to revert to its natural state prematurely. Also, the style required repeated application of relaxers; as new hair grew in, it too had to be chemically straightened.

Many of the popular musicians of the early to mid 20th century, including Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Louis Jordan, Little Richard, James Brown, and the members of The Temptations and The Miracles, were well known for sporting the conk hairstyle. The gatefold of the 1968 album Electric Mud shows blues legend Muddy Waters having his hair conked. The style fell out of popularity when the Black Power movement of the 1960s took hold, and the Afro became a popular symbol of African pride. The conk was a major plot device in Spike Lee's film biography Malcolm X, based upon Malcolm X's own condemnation of the hairstyle as black self-degradation in his autobiography because of its implications about the superiority of a more "white" appearance and because of the pain the process causes and the possibility of receiving severe burns to the scalp.

The conk is all but extinct as a hairstyle among African-American men today, although more mildly relaxed hairstyles such as the Jheri curl and the S-curl were popular during the 1980s and 1990s.

The conk was a major plot device in Spike Lee's film biography Malcolm X, based upon Malcolm X's own condemnation of the hairstyle as black self-degradation in his autobiography because of its implications about the superiority of a more "white" appearance and because of the pain the process causes and the possibility of receiving severe burns to the scalp.

The conk is all but extinct as a hairstyle among African-American men today, although more mildly relaxed hairstyles such as the Jheri curl and the S-curl were popular during the 1980s and 1990s.

This headdress was the result of sumptuary laws passed in 1786 under the administration of Governor Esteban Rodriguez Miró. Called the tignon laws, they prescribed and enforced appropriate public dress for female gens de couleur in colonial society. At this time in Louisiana history, women of African descent vied with white women in beauty, dress and manners. One of their most standout physical attributes that separated them from their white female counterparts was their hair. Women of African descent would often adorn their hair with colorful jewelry, beads and other accents, demonstrating an exotic appearance which attracted the attention of white male suitors. Many of them had become openly kept mistresses of white, French, and Spanish Creole men. This perceived threat to white women's relationships with French and Spanish Creole men incurred the jealousy and anger of their wives, mothers, sisters, daughters and fiancées.

The social status of white women being threatened and the attention garnered as a result of the jewelry-adorned hairstyles from women of African descent led to the demand by white people for action. Governor Miró decreed that women of African descent, slave or free, should cover their hair and heads with a knotted headdress and refrain from "excessive attention to dress" to maintain class distinctions.

Historian Virginia M. Gould notes that Miró hoped the law would control women “who had become too light skinned or who dressed too elegantly, or who, in reality, competed too freely with white women for status and thus threatened the social order.

As a representative of The World Literacy Crusade, he met former president, Barack Obama.

Bro. Rizza would spend his early years doing heavy research. His hard work and lifelong effort paid off when he helped to break the horrific secret about the MMR (measles, mumps, Rubella) vaccination and how it had been genetically coded to give African-American males Autism! His research brought international visibility at the 20-Year Anniversary of the Million Man March in Washington, DC.

Perhaps one of Bro. Rizza Islam's most famous endeavors was a union which included the L.A police department and rival gang members, Bloods and Crips. With the help of hip-hop artists, The Game and Snoop Dogg, peace (within the community) was restored and a movement called United Hood Nation was formed. United Hood Nations is a coalition of clergy, gang members, gang interventionists, activists, families of murdered victims, and community-based organizations to end gun violence.
