“God in the Hands of Angry Sinners” by C Baxter Kruger: https://www.perichoresis.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/God-in-the-Hands-of-Angry-Sinners.pdf

Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God, The Prodigal Son, Penal Substitutionary Atonement and the Monster God Debate

There are those who have confused the idea of Penal Substitution for the Gospel itself.

This does matter because it paints God as a Monster. Brian and I talk about his talk, the Death of the Monster God and the Monster God debate.

I talk about my own experience with this aberrant heretical theology that many of us have inherited and been raised in. I was led to believe that Jesus came to save us from God. That Jesus death paid off the wrath of the Father. That the Father spent all his righteous fury on his Son on the cross who was sentenced to hell instead of us.

John Crowder said in a recent Jesus Trip video:
“There’s a lot of foolishness in that idea that we call penal substitutionary atonement. The idea that God was abandoning or punishing his own Son in order to pay off his anger. That is absolute hogwash and the biggest heresy of the western world. It’s not biblical. The early church never believed the ridiculous idea that Jesus was saving us from God. This idea has nothing to do with the ancient faith of the early church fathers. Most importantly this idea does injustice to the Trinity.”

In particular We'll also be takin a look at Saint Patrick's Letter to the soldiers of Coroticus: http://www.righteousnessislove.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Saint-Patrick-Letter-to-the-soldiers-of-Coroticus.pdf

More Notes and the Scriptures we discuss are as follows:

The Fear of God - reverence and honor deep respect - "reverential trust" - May we all get a dose of it!

He seems to model himself after Paul and so much of his writing follows his example - except that he didn’t quite connect with the fact that he has a new nature as a believer. He continually calls himself a sinner and perhaps his actions and behavior even confirmed this, yet God and the Bible calls him a saint.

How important is it to see ourselves as "saints" as God has made us?

Which is more true, God’s word or your own experience?

You are a saint if you have received Christ:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 corinthians 5:17

The Pits of Drunkenness:

God calls drunkenness idolatry. Why not look to him to fullfill ya instead of drugs and spirits?

Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 11Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6

Have ya heard of the Irish potatoe famine from 1845 to 1849? We'll be discussen that as well as the example of Robert Traill who devoted his life to releive the starvin of their sufferin. His story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Traill_(clergyman) He was recognised for his compassion during the Great Famine in Ireland from 1846.

His story was feautured in a PBS Victoria episode wrote in by his own great great great (not so great) great granddaughter who is now a TV producer.

What can we do to do what is right for conscience sake when we see suffering? Do we do nothing? 1 Corinthians 13 “faith hope and love (charity) and the greatest of these is charity!

Robert reminds me of the machine gun preacher. He gave all and actually did something about the plight of the orphans in Africa - God bless him.

James chapter 2:

What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? 15Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, 16and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?
17So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
18Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”
19You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God.f Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. 20How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?

The only thing you really need to know about St. Patrick is that he was fond of all things green – wearing green robes (as you can see from the very accurate portrayal of him below), was fond of drinking green beer, giving out shamrocks, and dancing with leprechauns. He carried a staff and with it drove all the snakes out of Ireland (I heard from from a reliable source that he put ’em all in a wooden box and threw ’em in the river).

What can truly be known of the life of St. Patrick? Many legends and myths surround the man but thankfully there are two documents that scholars believe to have been written by Patrick himself. This is what Celeste and her sisters have done with their book. They are bringing the truth to light and exposing the abuse (sexual and otherwise) of what they experienced in the Children of God (COG) cult. (Read a synopsis of her story at the end of this post!)

Of course this was an extremely difficult thing for them to write out their stories in this book. It was difficult for my wife Catherine and I to read it! Setting the stage in the beginning of this episode by just reading the description of their book was even hard for me!

In this podcast we will be taking a look at the 5 declarations of The Forgotten Way of Yeshua, Christ Consciousness vs Sin Consciousness, Transformation and Redemption in Christ, and that God is better than you think he is and you can never imagine God better than he is!

From http://billvanderbush.com :
"The Gospel
God, in Christ, has stepped into the darkness of your story, took the abuse of your rejection, turned it all into your adoption, and raised you up with Him. The cross is the resounding “yes” of God over humanity. Salvation unveils this beautiful new covenant revelation. You are united with God, in Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. You are not God, and He is not you, but you are most certainly the home that He has chosen to live within. (John 14:20) Paul said a most incredible thing to the Galatians in chapter 2, verse 20. You have been (past tense) crucified with (co-crucified with) Christ. You no longer live to yourself, but Christ lives in you. We don’t experience this life alone. Jesus Christ didn’t just die and resurrect for you. He died and resurrected AS you and now His life is IN you. There’s no pride in this, because you didn’t do it! When we see what He has done, our only response is gratitude. It is His empowering grace that sets us free from sin, addiction, affliction, infirmity, and broken torment. Jesus Christ still saves souls, restores lives, imparts peace, renews minds, rebuilds relationships, heals bodies, and empowers people to live out His love and life. All of the work that you’re anticipating in surrendering your life to Christ is best accomplished from a place of rest. That is, being at rest in the totality of the finished work of the cross. Rather than strive to do, surrender to be who your Father believes you are, and see if the truth of your authentic identity doesn’t embrace you. From a place of empowered surrender to the love of God, the creative possibilities are endless, and your life will align to the destiny of God for you. May you respond by saying, “yes” from your heart and experience the saving grace of Christ today. Just say to God, from the deepest part of your heart, “God, I’ve tried to live without You, and I realize it’s not working. So right now, Jesus, I surrender my life to You. Take my life, and give me Yours. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit.
