The following Tax ID's may be used:
CPF# - Individual's Tax ID#
CNPJ# - Business Tax ID#

It has been recommended to put the Tax ID in the Company Name Line. That is, until all carriers can update their software and implement a special line for this information. Some carriers may already offer a space for this. Check with your carrier for more information. If shipping to an individual, this line will be empty and available for the Tax ID#. If shipping to a Company, In the Company Name Field on the Shipping Label, enter the Company name, and behind it the Tax ID#.

***Don't take this lightly, as according to reports, Brazil will not accept packages without this information listed on both the Shipping Label AND Customs Forms. Packages will be Returned (and you will be charged return shipping by your carrier), or your package will be Destroyed! Avoid delay of delivery to the customer, and additional expenses by making sure to include the Tax ID # of the recipient on both the Shipping Label and Customs Forms.

The following Tax ID's may be used:
CPF# - Individual's Tax ID#
CNPJ# - Business Tax ID#

It has been recommended to put the Tax ID in the Company Name Line. That is, until all carriers can update their software and implement a special line for this information. Some carriers may already offer a space for this. Check with your carrier for more information. If shipping to an individual, this line will be empty and available for the Tax ID#. If shipping to a Company, In the Company Name Field on the Shipping Label, enter the Company name, and behind it the Tax ID#.

***Don't take this lightly, as according to reports, Brazil will not accept packages without this information listed on both the Shipping Label AND Customs Forms. Packages will be Returned (and you will be charged return shipping by your carrier), or your package will be Destroyed! Avoid delay of delivery to the customer, and additional expenses by making sure to include the Tax ID # of the recipient on both the Shipping Label and Customs Forms.

FedEx Freight will increase rates on average of 5.9%

On our last episode, from a few days ago,  while discussing the 2020 Rate Increases for UPS, we discussed Surcharges. The same goes for FedEx... pay attention to the Surcharges. There are lot's of changes here too!

-AHS (Additional Handling Surcharge) - Dimensions will increase to $15, a 11.1% increase
-AHS - Weight will increase to $24, a 20% increase
-Maybe more importantly, this Surcharge, AHS-Weight (on January 20th) is dropping from a 70 lb threshold to 50 lbs. Meaning, you would not incur this surcharge before unless you shipped a 70 lb or heavier package. As of January 20, 2019, you will receive this surcharge when shipping a 50 lb or heavier package.

-Oversize Packages
-Express & Ground Oversize will increase to $100, a 11.1% increase
- Home Delivery Oversize will be $120, a 33% increase
-Address Correction from $16 to $17
-DAS (Delivery Area Surcharges) are up across the board. It also appears the FedEx is increasing the number of zip codes that will see the DAS surcharge. See the zip codes that will be effected at the below FedEx link.
-Residential Surcharges are up:
-Express, International and Ground from $4.40 to $4.65 up 5.68%
-Home Delivery is up from $3.80 to $4.00 a 5.26% increase

Beginning December 29, 2019, UPS has announced the following rate changes. We only hit some of the highlights and the below is not a full list. See the UPS link below for a full list of rate changes.

4.9% average increase on Ground Transportation. While some weight/zone combinations may be under 4.9%, other will be over 4.9%. 4.9% is an average.

Do not over look changes to additional surcharges. Surcharges are increasing too, and can add up quickly.

- AHS Weight From $23 to $24 a 4.3% increase.
-While maybe more importantly, the weight threshold for applying an Additional Handling surcharge will be lowered from 70 pounds to 50 pounds actual weight for UPS Ground and UPS Air services. If you ship 50 pound or heavier packages, you may want to explore your options. Can you ship the item in two lighter packages for less than one package 50 pounds or more?

- AHS Dimensions Are rising from $14.25, to $15.00, a 5.3% increase

- LPS Commercial (Large Package Surcharge) - Increasing from $95 to $100 a 5.3% increase

- LPS Residential - Increasing from $115 to $120 a 4.3% increase

- Over Max Limits - From $850 to $875, a 2.9% increase

For example, 3 lb package that measures 20x20x12” will now be charged at the 29 lb rate! If your website or eBay listings are set up to only charge shipping for a 3 lb package, and ship via USPS, you stand to take a large loss on shipping.

Length x width x height / 166 = Dimensional weight (Packages under 1 cubic foot will not be effected by this rule)

20x20x12 / 166 = 4800 / 166 = 28.195 = 29 lb package! USPS will bill you the actual weight or dimensional weight of the package, whichever is highest. This package could weigh 3 lbs, but you will be charged at the higher 29 lb rate.

Be sure to look at FedEx and UPS as they may be more economical on some packages.

Shipping holidays are those days that the major shipping companies take a break from picking up and delivering packages. As a small business owner or employee these are important dates to know. These dates tell you when you will be able to ship a customers order, when they should receive it, and if you should even come into work. We all know the major holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years.... but what happens when a holiday falls on a weekend, as does Christmas and New Years? Is the holiday then observed on Friday, or maybe Monday, or possibly not at all?

Remaining Shipping Holidays for October, November, December 2016, and January 2017 for FedEx, UPS and USPS

Monday, October 10 Columbus Day - The USPS will be closed in observation of Columbus day, All FedEx and UPS services will be available, with the exception of FedEx Home Delivery, they work Tuesday thru Saturday.

Friday, November 11 Veterans Day - The USPS will be closed in observation of Veterans day, All FedEx and UPS service will be available.

Thursday, November 24 Thanksgiving Day - FedEx Express, Ground, Home Delivery and Smartpost , along with UPS, and the United States Postal Service will be closed in observation of Thanksgiving. UPS notates that UPS Express Critical® will be available this day.

All services will re open the next day, November 25th, the day after Thanksgiving, also known as Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year. The only exception is FedEx Express notes that they will have modified service this day. "Early Station, on call pickups and drop box closings in some areas". So if you plan on shipping anything FedEx express that Friday, you may want to give them a call to clarify if the service you require is available. Their phone# is 1-800-GO-FEDEX.

And don't forget Cyber Monday the following Monday, December 1st. If you haven't started making preparations for these very big shopping days, may I suggest that you get started ASAP. Make sure you have plenty of stock on hand, and plenty of shipping supplies for these two days, as hopefully they will be big sales,... and shipping days for you!

I checked a Government website and it is listed as a federal Holiday, and it states that the USPS observes all of these days.

Tuesday, January 3 All FedEx, UPS, and USPS services will reopen, with the exception of FedEx Home Delivery. FedEx Home Delivery Drivers normal work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, with Sunday and Monday off, this way the Home Delivery guys don't get left out and get a 3 day weekend.

I'm not sure how you guys handle holiday's at your company, but here at Fastpack Packaging, If FedEx and UPS are not running, that also usually means that the USPS isn't open either, and most of our suppliers are closed, so we go ahead and take it too! It's not like we can ship anything....

The USPS® has just released a new line of Flat Rate Boxes, Called Their "Precious Cargo Box". It is being offered for a trail period of approximately 6 months, and started on September 1, 2016. The boxes can be ordered through the USPS® Postal Store. It looks very similar to the current flat rate boxes on the exterior, but the magic is on the inside. These Flat Rate boxes are special, the USPS® Postal Store offers these new boxes that have strategically placed polyethylene inserts inside that protect high value items, such as smartphones, tablets, picture frames and laptop computers.

The boxes currently come in three different sizes;

Inside Box Dimensions are:

Small 7 -3/8" x 4 -1/2" x 1- 3/8"
Medium 11- 3/4" x 11- 1/8" x 2- 5/8"
Large 17" x 13- 5/8" x 3"

These boxes are different than the other flat rate boxes that the USPS® offers. These come at a cost. The actual boxes will cost:

$6.99 per Small Flat Rate Precious Cargo Box
$12.99 per Medium Flat Rate Precious Cargo Box
$15.99 per Large Flat Rate Precious Cargo Box

When shipped via Priority Mail®, these boxes include $50 of Insurance.

The USPS® has just released a new line of Flat Rate Boxes, Called Their "Precious Cargo Box". It is being offered for a trail period of approximately 6 months, and started on September 1, 2016. The boxes can be ordered through the USPS® Postal Store. It looks very similar to the current flat rate boxes on the exterior, but the magic is on the inside. These Flat Rate boxes are special, the USPS® Postal Store offers these new boxes that have strategically placed polyethylene inserts inside that protect high value items, such as smartphones, tablets, picture frames and laptop computers.

The boxes currently come in three different sizes;

Inside Box Dimensions are:

Small 7 -3/8" x 4 -1/2" x 1- 3/8"
Medium 11- 3/4" x 11- 1/8" x 2- 5/8"
Large 17" x 13- 5/8" x 3"

These boxes are different than the other flat rate boxes that the USPS® offers. These come at a cost. The actual boxes will cost:

$6.99 per Small Flat Rate Precious Cargo Box
$12.99 per Medium Flat Rate Precious Cargo Box
$15.99 per Large Flat Rate Precious Cargo Box
