The “rich young ruler” syndrome goes beyond the simple trap of letting the love of money capture the heart that wishes to repent. This issue explores the heart that is supposed to belong to Jesus but does not accept His Lordship. We can be monetarily poor and yet refuse to give Jesus our obedience and walk away, sorrowfully, just as the rich young ruler did as recorded in the Book of Matthew. Or maybe we walk away, shocked that Jesus would have the audacity to ask such a task?
