In each episode Gutierrez shines a light on stories that have remained in the shadows of history. Each story takes us on a historical journey of discovery on heroic Latino Americans in defense of their country.
Gutierrez's book Patriots from the Barrio: the true story of Company E 141st Infantry, tells the true story of the only all Mexican American US Army unit in WWII. The book was named one of the top history books of all time by Book Riot. Gutierrez has been featured at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans and appeared in the PBS Documentary, American Historia: The Untold History of Latinos.
Hollywood Actor/Producer Wilmer Valderrama's production company has obtained the film rights to Patriots from the Barrio with plans for a future film based on the true story.

Oscar's inspirational story of a Mexican American overcoming many obstacles just to become an officer and a pilot in the US Army Air Corp is chronicled. Gutierrez breaks down Lt. Perdomo’s historic aerial combat mission in his P-47 Thunderbolt that also earned him the Distinguished Service Cross.

It's one of the reasons why I wrote the true story of the only all Mexican American U.S. Army unit in WWII. It is very important for us to share these stories of our courageous men and women that have contributed significantly to our nation's history. Our stories inspire all Americans, Latino history is American history. We are using the Patriots from the Barrio podcast to promote and educate on Latino veterans and hoping we inspire others to share their stories. Looking forward to bringing you these inspiring stories and connecting with our audience.
