In 1972, former teen idol Ricky Nelson returned to the Top 10 with his song, “Garden Party.” It’s an autobiographical tune that recounts an incident from October 15, 1971, when he was booed by the audience while performing at an oldies revival show at Madison Square Garden in NYC. There aren’t too many stories of popular artists getting booed off the stage, but Rick was able to turn lemons into lemonade by using it as an opportunity to climb back to the top of the charts. From 1957 to 1962, he practically lived in the Top 10. In his latest article for the Strange Brew, Scott G. Shea tells the incredible story of what led up to the incident, what went down and how Rick turned it into an act of redemption. Along the way, he became a leader of the country rock movement and employed a pre-Eagles Randy Meisner.
