How does an artist capture the essence of a person in a portrait? Is it more than just the facial features, the curve of the nose, the shape of the chin? Is it enough for an artist to just capture the physical presence, or must she also capture the subject’s soul in order for the work to be complete? Our guest today sculpts the deceased. She uses photographs, clothing, stories, and other items from her subjects’ lives in order to get to know her subjects as she captures their essence. And sometimes, her subjects want to get to know her back.
