Vasyl Lomachenko, the most technically-perfect boxer in the world, looked a little startled Saturday night by Teofimo Lopez's nuclear-powered second-round KO of iron-chinned Richard Commey at Madison Square Garden, which should be electrifying news to fight fans.

The likely result is that Loma will be highly motivated to show us exactly how good he can be if Lopez is his opponent in April. And Teofimo? We're still waiting to catch a glimpse of his sky-high ceiling. Can you feel your heart beating through your chest yet?

Meanwhile, Terence "Bud" Crawford got an unexpected challenge in the main event of the same ESPN card from Lithuanian slugger Egidijus Kavaliauskas, who scored an uncredited knockdown against the unbeaten pound-for-pounder.

Crawford awakened in time to deck Kavaliauskas in the seventh round, rock him in the closing seconds of the eighth, and stop him with two more knockdowns in the ninth to move to 36-0.

But how many B-listers can Bob Arum serve to the WBO welterweight champ before he loses his appetite for the sport? Rival promoters control all other top-drawer welterweights, and Crawford, 32, clearly is becoming restless.

Expert analysts Rizwaan Zahid and John J. Raspanti take on these
topics, and also discuss Mikey Garcia's head-scratching decision to remove his name from Manny Pacquiao's 3-fighter short list and accept a one-fight deal with Eddie Hearn and DAZN.

And they weigh the rumor that Tyson Fury is shopping for a veteran trainer to replace Ben Davison nine weeks before his rematch with Deontay Wilder.

Then, our British correspondent, Paul McLaughlin, gives us some insight on Dilian Whyte, Katie Taylor, and Anthony Joshua, all the way from England.

It's all a prelude for an interview with the world's best boxing historian, Christopher James Shelton, who spins the 130-year-old tale of hardscrabble heavyweight Peter Maher, who came from Ireland to challenge to best in the U.S. in the 1890s.

Dennis Taylor is host of The Ringside Boxing Show, editor/publisher of www.ringsideboxingshow.com, and co-author (with John J. Raspanti) of "Intimate Warfare: The True Story of the Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward Boxing Trilogy," an Amazon bestseller.
