The College Station city council wants to discuss what can be done to increase hotel occupancy rates. There was agreement at this week's meeting to talk about options. Councilman Dennis Maloney proposed spending hotel occupancy tax money on a consultant. Councilwoman Linda Harvell suggested using services available through the state's travel and tourism agency. The discussion to boost hotel occupancy rates of less than 60 percent, which according to Maloney includes properties on the verge of bankruptcy, will be considered separately from the council's review of city regulations of short term housing rentals.
