An Instagram photo has gone viral, showing what appears to be someone with the VeoRide bicycle that wound up on top of the dome of Texas A&M's Academic Building. The image of the person's face is covered by a happy face emoji, and their left hand with an Aggie ring giving the "horns down" sign.

That followed a tweet from Texas A&M that also went viral, showing the bicycle on top of the dome.

An A&M spokeswoman says scaffolding at the base of the dome...which could have been the way the bicycle was taken to the top...is expected to remain through the fall semester. The scaffolding is there for contractors doing masonry work on the spindles below the dome.

Melissa Bubela at A&M transportation services, which manages the contract with VeoRide, says the bicycle was removed by someone hired by the university's third party groundskeeping company SSC.

Bubela also says for a moment of humor and fun by those who were involved, it could have been a potentially life changing event for those who removed the bicycle.

And this incident is something that threatens the future of the bike sharing program.

Bubela says the majority of VeoRide users are following the rules, and there is been what she calls unprecedented activity this fall.
