A unanimous College Station city council supports city manager Bryan Woods changes to the new city hall building that is in the design process.

The addition of offices on the second and third floors in the center the building instead of an open area with natural light will accommodate the city's IT and community services departments, which are currently at other locations.

That increases the price of the new city hall from $33 to $38 million dollars.

Woods says funding for the additional space will come from not repurposing the current police department building when CSPD moves to its new headquarters.

Official action to make the required changes will come in future meetings.

Woods says it's still possible to award a construction contract before the end of 2019.

Groundbreaking for the new city hall, behind the current building, is expected to be delayed until 2020.
