The Bryan school district will be paying three times the normal amount to bus Bryan and Rudder High School football teams, bands, and their cheer and drill teams to out of town games this fall.

That's after the school board this month approved a contract to use charter buses.

Superintendent Christie Whitbeck says there are not enough drivers to go out of town and at the same time take students home from school.

Dr. Whitbeck says they continue efforts to recruit bus drivers.

Five to seven charter buses will be used each trip, instead of six to eight Bryan ISD buses.

The total cost for charter buses is estimated at $61,000 dollars, compared to $20,000 for using BISD buses and drivers.

Whitbeck says they were unsuccessful in getting their new UIL district to move start times to 7:30 instead of 7 p.m.
