Washed up? Not hardly. All three of our expert analysts warned us before
the fight that a eulogy for 35-year-old Sergey Kovalev was premature as he
prepared for a rematch of his knockout loss to Eleider Alvarez.
Travis Hartman, Rizwaan Zahid, and John J. Raspanti explain why The Krusher
was able to control Saturday's fight and regain his perch at the top of the
outstanding light heavyweight division, where unification bouts now await
against Dmitry Bivol, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, and Artur Beterbiev.
They also tell us whether Teofimo Lopez is the truth in a division that
already includes Vasilly Lomachenko, Richard Commey, and (presumably),
Mikey Garcia, why "Big Baby" Miller looms as a legitimate threat to Anthony
Joshua at Madison Square Garden, the impact of Ivan Baranchyk's decision to
pull out of the financially-imperiled WBSS tournament, and Golovkin's busy
week: He's filing a $3.5 million lawsuit against his former managers, and
he's weighing lucrative offers from both DAZN (which handles Canelo) and
PBC (which handles Jermall Charlo.)
British correspondent Paul McLaughlin checks in with his weekly update from
the United Kingdom, and then we interview Kenny Porter -- trainer, manager,
and father of Showtime Shawn -- who pulls no punches in a remarkable,
hour-long conversation.
*Dennis Taylor is host of The Ringside Boxing Show, editor/publisher of
www.ringsideboxingshow.com , and
co-author (with John J. Raspanti) of "Intimate Warfare: The True Story of
the Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward Boxing Trilogy," an Amazon bestseller.*
