During the June 4, 2018 Bryan school board meeting, there was discussion about plans in the 2018-19 school year to spend an additional $678,000 dollars towards teaching special education students. Associate superintendent Barbara Ybarra says that's the result of more students. Superintendent Christie Whitbeck says there has been an unprecedented number of students referred for testing to receive special education services. Next year's proposed budget calls for spending $510,000 dollars for additional special ed classroom employees, and another $168,000 in stipends for special ed positions.
