Spanish artist Borondo is among the exciting wave of modern mural painters bringing classical aesthetics and traditional techniques into the streets while simultaneously bringing the grit and power of the streets into his highly sought after gallery work. Borondo's often challenging imagery can be seen as unsettling by some due to the subject matter and perhaps also his handling of materials which has been described as loose, painterly, and sometimes even unfinished looking. Nothing however, seems to slow him from producing an impressive amount of work including large scale pieces in very public settings and always completely on his own terms.
We were very lucky to sit down with Borondo during production of what would later become a very controversial mural in Berlin for Project M9 with Urban Nation, StreetArtNews, and JUSTKIDS.
