Jeremy Christian is back with a new theory on why kids get cancer, people break legs, and a unique take on why other religions have popped up. His faith may be rattled, but his skepticism is being tested.
I know what you mean about becoming atheist. Most I've spoken to it's the same story. They critically analyzed their beliefs, found them lacking, then ended up Atheist as a kind of default position. Most times they haven't turned that same critical gaze toward this new world view to see if it holds up it seems. Getting atheists thinking that way most times yields some really interesting discussion.
Well thank you for that. I try to approach each of those discussions conversationally, to my detriment, usually. I don't want to come in with prepared deflective answers. I want to have a genuine discussion that can be potentially illuminating to all involved.
In any case I love to listen to you and him go back and forth.. I find myself yelling at you through my phone.. but I get a chance to listen to a genuine believer rather than a apologist that I'm pretty sure it's lying on purposes. I appreciate you being genuinely honest.
That's the thing... I think most Athiest became Athiest by questioning their perspective.i know I did I was a Christian my whole like until I was 32 and then I started questioning my perspectives. Those questions led to different co
If you can get an atheist to question their perspective in the way they question religion, and get them to try to explain as believers are often having to try to do, the conversation gets a lot more interesting. That's what I wanted.
I'm just evaluating reality against the idea that it's causeless. Or, more accurately, not deliberately caused. I don't hear atheists say this because they're usually too busy criticizing religion. I just want that same evaluation done on the alternative truth that they're postulating.
Yesss that.. It sounds to the listener that you are taking everything you have heard different Athiests say and grouping it all into one world view... And if you do that you are right it's a mess.. But that's not actually Athieisim.
Yeah, what I was wanting was for him to start thinking about these questions coming from his perspective. Criticizing Christianity is easy, but when you turn that same critical eye towards atheism it falls apart. He was trying to say I was treating atheism as some unified ideology. I'm not. Just evaluating it, just as he does, in light of reality.
Like when you were explains why you can't accept athieisim and he was trying to tell you that's what you were describing was not athieisim it was not sinking in.. And even he was saying that your approach wasn't as skeptical as you think it is il.. You are hyper resistant to that.
Because I think you are very honest about your beliefs...I don't think you have a dishonest bone in your body .. You really believe what you are saying... But the this that David is saying to you take a long time sink in.. You are stubborn!
