Brenda Mae Tarpley (born December 11, 1944), known as Brenda Lee, is an American performer who sang rockabilly, pop and country music, and had 37 US chart hits during the 1960s, a number surpassed only by Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Ray Charles and Connie Francis.[1] She is best known for her 1960 hit "I'm Sorry", and 1958's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", a US holiday standard for more than 50 years.
At 4 ft 9 inches tall, she received the nickname Little Miss Dynamite in 1957 after recording the song "Dynamite"; and was one of the earliest pop stars to have a major contemporary international following.
Lee's popularity faded in the late 1960s as her voice matured, but she continued a successful recording career by returning to her roots as a country singer with a string of hits through the 1970s and 1980s. She is a member of the Rock and Roll, Country Music, Rockabilly and Hit Parade Halls of Fame. Lee currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee.

Teresa Brewer (7 May 1931 – 17 October 2007) was an American pop singer whose style incorporated elements of country, jazz, R&B, musicals and novelty songs. She was one of the most prolific and popular female singers of the 1950s, recording nearly 600 songs. Active 1949 to 1970s

Connie Francis (born Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero; December 12, 1938) is an American pop singer of Italian heritage and the top-charting female vocalist of the 1950s and 1960s. Although her chart success waned in the second half of the 1960s, Francis remained a top concert draw. Despite several severe interruptions in her career, Francis is still active as a recording and performing artist (as of November 2011).

Crossroads - Robert Johnson

"CROSSROADS" is a musical movie based on the legends of the black guitarist Robert Johnson, died mysteriously in 1938. It's a PACT WITH THE DEVIL there. One night, at the crossroads, a man forces the fate and sells his soul to the Devil in exchange for glory. The fame arrives fast, but it contains a curse. Robert Johnson dies after the recording of 29 songs. The legend says that there would be a thirtieth piece. Whoever will find it will become immensely rich and will release Johnson of his pact.

Robert " Bud " Johnson is a homonym of famous Bluesman. He is white, lives in Missouri and follows a strange dream : be the one who will find the thirtieth track. Shot in the Delta of the Blues, between Memphis and Greenwood in Mississipi, CROSSROADS tells Robert's trip " Bud " Johnson on the old abandoned roads and the cotton fields.

Twenty five musical clips filmed with two cameras to understand the Blues of the origins. The legend of "Crossroads" where Robert Johnson would have sold his soul to the Devil is handled within sequences of reconstruction where " Bud " Johnson meets the Devil who try repeatedly to prevent him from continuing his quest.
Robert Johnson is not only a mythical blues guitarist with his 29 pieces recorded in two days. The legends on his life and its disappearance are known from every guitarists. So much that there would be three graves known for the Bluesman. No blackman, died in the 30s, had such a fame and such a fate.

Jazz Legend Randy Weston on His Life and Celebration of African Rhythms - Democracy Now!

From: democracynow.org - In a Black History Month special, Democracy Now! airs an extended interview with the legendary pianist and composer Randy Weston. For the past six decades, Weston has been a pioneering jazz musician incorporating the vast rhythmic heritage of Africa. His most famous compositions include, "Little Niles," "Blue Moses," and "Hi-Fly," and his 1960 album, "Uhuru Afrika," was a landmark recording that celebrated the independence movements in Africa and the influence of traditional African music on jazz. The record, which began with a freedom poem written by Langston Hughes, would later be banned by the South African apartheid regime, along with albums by Max Roach and Lena Horne. In 1961, Randy Weston visited Africa for the first time as part of a delegation that also featured Nina Simone. The trip would transform Weston's life and lead him to eventually moving to Africa in 1967. In 2001, he was named a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts — it is considered to be the nation's highest honor in jazz. Weston talks about his collaboration with Langston Hughes, how Marcus Garvey and Paul Robeson influenced his life, his friendship with the Nigerian afrobeat star Fela Kuti, and his success with "having people understand the impact of African rhythms in world music, whether it's Brazil or Cuba or Mississippi or Brooklyn. If you don't have that African pulse, nothing is happening," Weston said. Now 85 years old, Weston continues to tour the world, and in 2010, he published, "African Rhythms: The Autobiography of Randy Weston."
